i'm don lemon. here's our breaking news. the votes are being counted right now. i'm talking about this north carolina special congressional election that could have huge implications across this country. we're going to tell you why. this is why. because what happens in the state tonight, it could be a precursor -- it could tell us a lot about what might happen in the 2020 race. the republican's name is dan bishop. and then the democrat, another dan, dan mccready, locked in a tight race. it's in a district that president trump won handily in 2016. but it's close now between the democrat and the republican. a district that has been solidly republican since -- get this -- 1963. straight to it now. cnn's john king at the magic wall with the very latest. even though the president is not on the ballot, make no mistake. this is a large part of the referendum on his presidency. votes still being counted, but this is a race that should be an easy win for the gop. it shouldn't even be close, but it is tonight
