so many people, or enough at least went and voted for kamala harris for president and republican don bacon for congress? >> yeah, we had about 11,000 harris, bacon voters on november 5th. i tried to run as a statesman. i want to put my country first more and more and over partisan politics, we had to show that we delivered results to the district and that we're delivering results. nationally, i'm on the armed services committee and i'd like to think we had a great impact. so i really focused on being an american over being a republican first and delivering results. but we were we had headwinds and it was running uphill. i mean, harris spent $21 million in omaha. president trump spent zero. he was polling about ten points behind harris, but he ended up losing by about four and a half, which helped me out closing that gap. but also osborne, the independent candidate who was really a democrat. he won our district by 13 points. so he put all this together we knew we had to run a really good race we couldn't make many mistakes and voters for putting me back in for two more years. >> you're on t

several times for the seat, has a slight edge over don bacon. as lost to bacon two y ago by fewer than six thousand vote this congressional district is known as the blue dot. e biden won district and it is elecral ve in 2020. nebraska and maine are the only two states that split t electoral vote that way. they do not do winner takes they dole them out by who wins congressional districts and then statewide for a couple of electoral votes. let's end with alabama's second district. democrat are leading in polls in the district dominated by republicans for 60 years until redrawn in 2022.t ordered it the district encompass state capital, montgomery, has a majority of black voters. the black vote makes up 27% of the state population and you can see democrats picked up that seat in alabama's second congressional district with 98% of the vote in according to the associated press. peter: greta, thank you. we are sitting here just watching and commenting on everything that comes up and i have completely lost my train of thought because i was so interested.

and so if you see someone, an incumbent don bacon in nebraska against tony vargas, is he going to be able to hold on there in a place that's shifting versus in maine jared? golden? is he going to be able to hold on to a pretty red trump district in a presidential election here? >> right. so i'm going to jump in and say a few things and we, we typically, and those of you in the room will have a handout. so we definitely want to talk a little bit about the senate and house races and the governor's race. i think there's really only one governor's race of interest. jeff already started with the house race. let me just say a few things we've all talked about. the race is close. i think that's right that there's been some movement and it depends on how much you judge how big a movement or whether it's still going probably to trump and the republican side at the presidential level and maybe in some of the senate races that some of the traditional measures that you might look at, like the president's job approval rating is probably, you know, something that might be good for trump and republ

i know for sure that's don bacon and ryan -- don bacon and fitzpatrick, two districts where voters sent a republican to congress but kamala harris as their choice for the white house. and then democratic districts were the rest including members like marie gluesen camp perez, tom suozzi and others. just 13. 19040 years ago. down to 13 now. if you draw a congressional district that kamala harris won or that donald trump won you can be almost certain that they are going to send a democrat or a republican to the u.s. house of representatives. that's why gerrymandering is wrong. that's why we have to fix it. the time for action is now. this is the most pressing need of this congress. and as i close out my time, i want to leave this body with this incredibly important thought. you heard it from leader hakeem jeffries. we are very likely to see a congress decided by north carolina partisan gerrymandering. mid-census, mid redraw of our maps. this wasn't the 0-year draw. it was something the republicans did. a net gain of three republicans. those three seats were not even close. that's going to

also, don bacon holding on, it appears for now, in nebraska's second congressional district. still some of omaha to count. that's a place where democrats were counting on kamala harris to run a very large margin to carry the democrat, tony vargas, across the finish line against that veteran moderate republican. and that appears to be going republicans' way. that's creating just a little bit of breathing room as republicans try and hold on to their house majority. and we are seeing a strong degree, a reasonable degree of split ticket voting that explains why democrats are still in the game in a lot of these house and senate races. >> dave, there was a reinforcement in the rgv, area, right, of the republican strength there? >> yeah, and hispanic voters are a big reason not only why we saw such a sweeping victory for donald trump last night, but also why republicans are in a good position in the house. hispanic voters, democrats didn't perform as well with them in some of these pennsylvania districts as they were hoping. and, also, as we get a peek as some of the early californi

also in nebraska, don bacon the incumbent republican that represents a district that joe biden carried in 2020 and kamala harris carried last night. 8300 votes ahead of his democratic challenger with 95% he is feeling very good about hanging onto that seat. there are still some pick up opportunities including arizona . the freshman seen as vulnerable going and he is down narrowly. that is 4100 votes behind her. there is still a lot to count. 59% is in. there are still some opportunities in new york. one of them is in the house congressional district 19 where the republican incumbent is trailing his opponent josh riley by 3600 votes. now they believe they can pick up that seat because there is 94% of that vote that is in. so why is it so important? as you mentioned, democrats lost control of the senate. they lost the white house and at the senate right now 52-42. there've been three pickups so far. they could potentially get another one in pennsylvania and they are leading in another one in nevada. up to 54 seats potentially as a handful have to be called. that's what makes the house so

to outline your race for our viewers, because you are in a re- match with republican congressman don baconad on the show last week. this is a district in the maha area, one of the most competitive in the country, one that biden flipped in 2020, but it went on to re- elect your republican opponent. i wonder, what is different about this cycle and especially how turnout in a presidential election might impact your race? >> well, thank you, boris. well, there's a couple of things that i think are really important about nebraska's second district. the first is, this is an independent place. this is where trump won in 2016, this is where biden won in 2020, and it's also the place where we have been knocking on doors since pretty much day one of this cycle. we have knocked on 15 times more doors than two years ago and also voters have seen what a republican congress have done when they're in leadership, which is one of the most ineffective congresses in any of our lifetimes. they're looking for new leadership. this is republican and democrats and independents alike that are coming across the ais

we have seen down battle races, for example, i was talking to congressman don bacon, a republican inka, it is omaha so it is purple so for years he signed onto a piece of legislation, a messaging bill that declared that life began at conception and now his opponent, tony a rematch from 2022, he is being attacked for that over and over again. bacon has essentially given up on pushing that legislation forward, he did not sign on to it this year and he erased part of his website. he is not avoiding the issue altogether but it seems like he is struggling to develop messaging around it. it speaks to down ballot races across the country. is there a path for republicans on this issue that could lead them to having more consistency with women voters down the road? >> politically speaking republicans have been their own worst enemy on the abortion issue and they continue to set the abortion policy and messaging as though they are trying to run primaries. i go back to this moment when there was eight candidates in a debate, republican candidates for a u.s. senate seat and they talked about the

introduced a bipartisan bill, the strengthening tribal families act come along with representative don baconto direct hhs to assess the state child welfare agencies representative amesty federal protections for tribal children. as i got in title iv-b. can you talk about how this would help state and improve outcomes for tribal children and families? >> so i don't claim to be a travel expert but i will say over the past year and a half we look at legislation and all 50 states. and what was introduced. it was striking to see how many states have introduced legislation protecting and strengthening the indian child welfare act. both republican and democratic dockets. there is no doubt that if you talk to tribes, they will talk about the need to strengthen icwa. the field generally looks at icwa as best practice. not just for indian children but for all children. and so it is certainly something that is needed. >> and i would like to go back to title iv-b, mr. geen. there are improvements that could be made in this reauthorization. in fact, i have a couple of bills come to helping answer families

places like even nebraska too where don bacon has a lot of trouble there.here are a lot of ways where democrats financial advantage has enabled them to invest in these races and have republicans divert resources there. peter: you mentioned dr. miller meeks had a republican problem. did her opponent in the primary run to the right of her? kirk: a little bit to the right but he did not campaign a whole lot either. this is more of a protest vote against miller meeks. did not spend a whole lot of money and he ran a little to the right of her. she has struggled to consolidate the republican party behind her. if the pole does prove out and harris is leading by three points in iowa, this is one of those races along with zach nunn race in iowa's third where we could see surprising democratic pickups. peter: two races in virginia where the polls havelosed. let's begin with house district to down in virgini beach. kirk: so these races, adins seven and virginia two are our early bellwethers to see only how the race for the house is going to go butaly the presidential
