francisco mayor gavin newsom has a slight lead over incumbent abel maldonado. in the attorney general race, steve cooley has 39% and carmelo harris has 38%. and don knapp on how the analysts are reading the results. >> reporter: san francisco mayor gavin newsom is five points ahead of state lieutenant governor abel maldonado in a new field poll. that's beyond the margin of error but not so far ahead the mayor can relax says the poll director mark decamillo. >> we've been seeing that gavin newsom has had an advantage over maldonado in this race in each of the previous polls that was the case. and we're seeing it again in this case. but the lead is not comfortable. it is very close. but it is a lead nonetheless. it is outside the margin of error. >> that's why i'm going the route of the public utilities commission. >> reporter: maldonado won public support in his role as acting government in the aftermath of the san bruno gas line explosion. and decamillo says maldonado may benefit from late movement among latino voters but the contest between the attorney general and steve cooley and camilla harris is too close to call and they're separated by one

no means i went back to my records and congress don edwards some of you may remember, held a hearing in 1987 on impacts of climate change on san francisco bay area and that was years back but it's getting a lot of attention but not a new issue. this graph could be temperature over time or green house gas over time. population. but what it is, actually is the number of publications scientific publication addressing climate change and water resources globally from 1950 up until the present and mike is still here. he was the lead author on this article it came out in the journal of climate change, i think, last year that looked that range of literature out there and the issues addressed and regions and topics and so on. we actually have on-line that institute this bibliography and you can do searchs by author, subject, reen on, whatever. there's the url. i stuck in the word reservoir and it turns out there's 60 some odd articles on this. so this is not new scientific subject. i'll talk about four things. what should be done. there have been proposals for decades of what water managers should do both generally and specifically. i'm going to

pipeline in san bruno exploded but the "san francisco chronicle" reports the pg&e employees have not talked to investigators about what happened that night. don knapp on the reason the workers have so far not been interviewed. >> reporter: big questions remain about the gas pipeline blast that destroyed 37 san bruno homes and left eight dead including what was going on with pipeline pressure before the blast and why did it take an hour and a half to get the gas turned off? now the "san francisco chronicle" reports two pacific & electric employees who played important roles in responding to the blast have not yet talked about. they say they are too traumatized to do so. the ntsb will eventually question the two it is expected. >> one thing that is important in these explosions is human error is oftentimes the element that is relevant. >> reporter: the ntsb told the "chronicle" the two declined to speak to investigators in the week after the disaster and still have not been questioned. the board says there was a spike in gas line pressure from the normal 375 pounds per square inch to 386 pounds per square inch. pg&e has refused to release infor
