don knapp is at the park where neighbors say violence is up. don. >> reporter: that's right, ann. reports that a man just walking through the park as police say was attacked by a gang of young people, beaten, stabbed and robbed. troubles many people in the neighborhood that say violence is escalating at the park. andy wesley woke up to sirens earlier today then saw investigators chase the blood trail of a stabbing victim. >> then walking up stores there were cones at the top there. >> reporter: the male victim made his way over the foot bridge at 19th and church before collapsing. san francisco police spokesman saying the man is hospitalized with life threatening wounds. he says a group of a dozen or more of a group confronted the man. three have been arrested and being held for attempted murder. it is a disappointment for a public park. only last week the park was filled with people who had come to enjoy a symphony program. neighbors say the park has a reputation as a family friendly and mellow place. >> mellow place. i have three kids and we used to come here all the time and no

don knapp shows us five people rushed to the hospital some with life-threatening injuries. don, what's the latest? >> reporter: well, the latest is police have just opened up this intersection of arleta and san bruno. the bus stop is where it happened at 9:45 this morning. the vehicle came down that hill and ran into some people at the bus stop. it was a single vehicle, a ford explorer suv. heading down san bruno avenue toward bayshore at arleta, something went wrong. here's mindy tallmadge from the fire department. >> the vehicle lost power and the driver was a 24-year-old woman who wasn't able to control the vehicle, wasn't able to brake. the vehicle crossed the street and hit a group of pedestrians that were waiting for a bus. they weren't at the bus stop. they were waiting in the shade next to a building and unfortunately, that's exactly where her vehicle ended up. >> reporter: five people were taken to san francisco's trauma center, san francisco general, one with life-threatening injuries. apparently, four with very serious injuries. tallmadge says it appears that the

don knapp is in oakland, where people are trying to raise more awareness about the hasanni campbell case. don. >> reporter: that's right, allen. one year ago as you recall, police suggested they had the case wrapped up but a year later they don't have the body or anyone in custody. >>> reporter: these are some of the folks who over the past year held vigils, did searches and fundraisers. they have come to meet with the chief deputy district attorney to see if they can get things moving again. >> we would like to know if there is anything we can do to help with the search for hasanni. >> reporter: he was reported missing a year ago today by foster father louis ross and an aunt who is also his foster mother, jennifer campbell. it's still classified as a missing person's case. louis ross is our primary suspects. campbell and ross met with reporters after he was reported missing. >> i couldn't love him any more than if i had given birth to him. we love him with all our hearts. >> this is not just a situation they are just sitting back and collecting money having this kid that we didn't want.

don knapp shows us what made the flames so tough to fight. >> reporter: firefighters, their gear and water lines cluttered valencia street shutting it to traffic on 16th and 17th as they battle to keep the fire under control and put out simmering hotspots. a pocket camera shows the heavy smoke over the neighborhood. by the time firefighters arrived a single family residence behind valencia was fully in flames and the fire was spreading. a third alarm was called. >> the risk is it's spreading into this apartment building. we had two rescue squads called to search all the buildings to make sure nobody was in there. >> reporter: firefighters evacuated about 20 people from apartments above the street and buildings behind the street. this greenhouse on rondell is where firefighters say the flames began. it spread to the wall of the white house next-door, then apparently traveled along the wall to the back of the valencia street three-story building. joe turner says he waited for the fire department as flames headed his way. >> it could have been worse. i'm glad the fire department got the

don knapp, cbs 5. >>> there is a new proposal on the table in hopes of getting some laid off firefightersork in san jose. about 50 of them lost their jobs friday after the union and the city couldn't agree on a concessions package. the firefighters union announced that proposal yesterday. it includes a two tiered retirement system for newly hired firefighters but the pay conception remains at 5.25%, far less than 10% that the city needs from the workers to help balance the budget. >>> this comes as the city's new fire chief takes over today. that's willie mcdonald who previously served as fire chief of scottsdale, arizona. he takes over from the chief who retired in june. union officials say mcdonald has some staffing ideas that could reduce overtime costs. it remains to be seen whether that could save enough to bring back some of those lost firefighters jobs or re-open the fire station on communications hill. >>> a wildfire north of los angeles should be fully contained by this evening. that's if everything goes as planned. that fire has burned nearly 22 square miles of brush in the ante
