well i'm joined now by journalist jason donia he is in los angeles good evening to you jason you are rather close to malibu and it's one of those california coastal communities iconic known around the world how are people there coping with these fires. all be honest with you we're frustrated and a lot of people who live in the malibu in thousand oaks area this very affluent area they have been homeless for several days now and it's unclear when they're going to be able to get back into the area to see if they're all is nothing but a pile of lumber or if their home made it through the fire's fire response teams are saying that it's still too dangerous to get into those areas because it's really a tight community there's tight and narrow streets in that area so if the flare up does happen fire crews won't be able to save anybody well what are the plans of firefighters are they playing simply to try to extinguish the flames or are they hoping to contain them until the fires burn themselves out. right now containment is the number one priority they're using helicopters and fixed wing air

and for the latest on the california wildfires are joined now by journalist jason campbell donia who's in redondo beach los angeles jason thanks for being with us what more can you tell us about the extent of the damage in paradise in the north of california. it is vast to say the least and it's devastating to look at and you hear stories of people who had to evacuate at a moment's notice that fire was raging hard and shasta and it really consumed a lot of buildings and surest area nearby people are at evacuation centers trying to get ahold of loved ones and people we're getting stories that people left without cell phones without any identification whatsoever and now officials are trying to identify them and try to get them in touch with some of their loved ones and it's very very difficult our governor elect just toured the burn zone right now and he said that it's it's it's incredible it's unbelievable it's paradise in northern california is a very wooded area and everything here in california is dry we haven't had any rain and it just went up in a matter of moments while the fires
