and with us from los angeles is journalist jason camp a donia jason we want to ask you how dangerous are these blazes where you are they're extremely dangerous the fire has now jumped from malibu into los angeles city and that fire is burning just behind me here about twenty miles up the coast it's hitting a very densely populated area right now so fire crews are stretched extremely thin trying to protect life and property right now the fire in malibu is about seventy thousand acres and hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes are there any signs i mean you mentioned the difficulties there are there any signs of california firefighters are getting closer to really bringing these blazes under control. right now the santa ana winds have calmed a bit so last night we were getting wind gusts of up to forty to fifty miles per hour right now there are coming to about twelve to fifteen miles per hour so that is helping also the cool temperatures here in southern california are actually really helping these guys out there and the problem is that when the wind gust

well i'm joined now by journalist jason donia he is in los angeles good evening to you jason you are rather close to malibu and it's one of those california coastal communities iconic known around the world how are people there coping with these fires. all be honest with you we're frustrated and a lot of people who live in the malibu in thousand oaks area this very affluent area they have been homeless for several days now and it's unclear when they're going to be able to get back into the area to see if they're all is nothing but a pile of lumber or if their home made it through the fire's fire response teams are saying that it's still too dangerous to get into those areas because it's really a tight community there's tight and narrow streets in that area so if the flare up does happen fire crews won't be able to save anybody well what are the plans of firefighters are they playing simply to try to extinguish the flames or are they hoping to contain them until the fires burn themselves out. right now containment is the number one priority they're using helicopters and fixed wing air
