behind both of his loving parents, lorraine and frank, as well as his brothers and sisters, jacqueline, donna, and marina, laura, mark, and kevin. i met with many members of vincent and anthony's families over the past week. some of them will be sharing their fond memories of these two courageous men later. i will say i am profoundly sorry for your loss. we offer your thoughts and prayers and we share in your pain. our thoughts are also with chief hays white as well as tom other conner, the head of our firefighter and to captain william all of the crew that engine company -- both serve z a-- served as brothers in their common goal in protecting the people of san francisco. today, we recognize the tremendous selflessness and devotion of all of our firefighters, and we are reminded that each time that we respond to a fire, they bravely march into the unknown and put their lives on the line for all of us. we are reminded that every time we hear the wail of a fire engine's siren, the brave men and women onboard are preparing to protect and serve us. as mayor of this great city, i want you to know

my name is donna. i am the executive director of the san francisco friends of the public library.i want to thank you for your deliberations on this matter. staff as you may know, the library is building or renovating 24 libraries, and we have been going to each of these neighborhoods and listening as those neighbors provide a vision for the library in their community and how it is going to serve them, and there has been no richer conversation than the one in north beach. it has really been a wonderful exercise in community vision in, and we have heard overwhelmingly from people that this new vision for their library is one that has come from them, the library listening carefully to the things that they say are important for their neighborhood, and it has been a wonderful model for working with resources and about what this neighborhood wants and needs, and you have heard oftentimes about all of the people of various speakers represent, families and children that cannot be a four hours at public hearings. there is also a great and vibrant literary community there, and a former poet

so cary and the scenic designic, donna eastman, as well as the lighting designer jim ingles developed this idea of a turn table which would turn and allow the audience to see primary locations but see beyond that through the set secondary and tertiary types of scenes as opposed to being very boxy. so in the writing of the piece, all of this is taken into consideration while it was being developed, how we were going to stage it. over that period of 3 1/2 to 4 years, the piece got tighter, stronger, we worked with a variety of actors that came and went which in this particular case was very important because the material deals with people from a lot of different backgrounds and my own background is japanese american, there are two cake ters who are japanese american, three, rather, but there are african american characters, there's a russian jew by way of yokohama and i don't necessarily have those backgrounds. so in the workshop process, what it allows me to do to work with actors, particularly some of the african american characters, i can work with them to make sure the characters i
