rosa delauro, donna edwards, cochair of the syrian policy committee where we will be going into effect in momentarily. chris van hollen is not because but he is going to be a ranking member on target. in the interest of time, we have a meeting, i associate myself with the remarks of chairman becerra in terms of the priorities. it is really important to continue the conversation about where we were when president obama was elected. the chairman of the fed said that if we did not act by monday, we would not have an economy. that is what he said in september of 2008. that was the state of our economy before president obama took office. when he took office, the deficit was one point $4 trillion. it is now under $500 billion. unemployment is under 6%. the market is over 17,000. we experienced 56 straight months of job creation. millions of people have health insurance. there is much more positive data. still, the american people feel uncertainty. they were scared by what happened in september of 2008. while the economy is improving, it has not reached the people that it needs to reach, the

congresswoman donna edwards, a familiar face on this network. thank you, congresswoman.re talking about -- i hate to do this, but we're going to do it. the african-american vote. i call them the cavalry. because usually they're assumed to be the base. this time they've been called in an emergency sort of effort by a party that's a bit -- not complacent, but down i think. emotionally down. the white voter as a democrat seems to be down. they're saying let's get the people who care most historically. why is the african-american vote the one who's been called almost like the emergency force to save the democratic bacon in some of these states? >> the african-american vote is a core vote of the democratic party. that is not a surprise. and i think if you look across the country, even in districts and states where there's a small percentage of african-american votes, they're being called to arms, and they're standing up. they heard the president's call. they understand the importance of this president in standing up to this president. and they were prepared to come out and vo
