those numbers and your post shows cummings with a third of the democrat while chris van hollen and donna edwards each getting 20%. without cummings then edwards gets that boost. she leads van hollen 38% to 28%. considering van hollen's high profile, these numbers, are they surprising? >> i think they are. i think they challenge the conventional wisdom of the race which is that van hollen starts off as the heavy favorite. he's the clear favorite in fund-raising and he had a 3-1 fund raising in the most comparable reports, but his support is shallow in the state with especially a well-known figure like elija comments, and he gets a lot of those votes from the baltimore city area. how important is jurisdiction in van hollen and montgomery county, how important are these to the candidates? >> they could be and we saw last year with governor larry hogan drawing heavily with anne arundel. i think our poll and follow-up interviews detected a lot of passion for cummings in his home area. what was also interesting in the survey was a pretty stark racial gap in preferences and surprisingly low support amo
