with me are donna rosato and greg olson our experts. his question came in for you. >> how bad for my children when they go the college in eight years he is going off, what is the college debt going to be like, and how are we going the pay it down? >> it is a question that i hear over and over. >> oh, yeah, these are scary times. today, someone who at the ends a public school pays $30,000 a year of private school, $60,000 a year. and those are daunting numbers and the department of education says that if the numbers continue on the same rate within 15 by 2016, the payment for a college education, the tab is doubled in the past 15 years, but, you know, that is the sticker price. you are not going to -- you apply for the financial aid and you won't have the pay the whole tab. this woman has a lot of time. and put the money in a 529 plan and get tax breaks and choose the college wisely. we talked about this earlier, you don't have to pay for the most expensive school. and state schools give in-state students tax breaks and look for other sou

, we are talking about the student loans and important issue especially right now, and we have donna rosato and greg olson with us to bak it down. donna, listen to the question we got. >> why isn't the government doing more to give more student loans out to make it easier for students? >> do you have kids going to college? >> i have one in and one going into college next year. >> so, for so many parents, students right now, it is getting harder and harder to afford college. what's your advice? >> well, certainly, this person is right. when you have kids in college, it feels like it is feeling insurmountable the amount you have the pay, but the government has aid out there, but with the problems of the budget deficit they have not increased aid and more people applying for aid, so more come petition for the dollars. so of course, you want the max out whatever federal aid you can get, but the federal government is not the only place you can turn to for aid, and a lot of the states subsidize loans which helps tremendously, and other sources, too. this is a person who has kids in college, and s

with me, greg olsen and donna rosato, our two money experts. greg, this question comes for you.estion is about 401(k). i have quite a bit of money invested there. it doesn't seem to be growing so my question would be, what's the best way to move that and where to move it to build on it? >> you know, greg, she also told me the market is so volatile now, you don't really know where to put it. >> understood. unless her 401(k) -- if she's still at her employer, there's not much she can do in terms of moving her 401(k). >> right. >> the good news is most likely it's not specific to her 401(k) program. a year ago, the s&p was sitting a litting over 1,300. today the s&p is sitting a little over 1,300. so it's not specific to her 401(k). a lot of people are feeling the same thing. the one thing that i would recommend is look for a target asset allocation fund that's closest to her age, within her 401(k). allocate the money toward that and then contribute as much as possible. >> i wonder, donna, if she should maybe put a little less than maybe she is in her 401(k) and put it elsewhere in
