c-span: dorie mccullough lawson, what is "posterity" about? >> guest: "posterity" is a collection of letters from great americans to their children. and the letters go from 1664 all the way up to 1998. c-span: why did you do this? guest: i did it because i am a reader of biography, and i -- whenever i'm reading biography, i love the parts about family and i love the letters. and i had read a collection of nc wives' letters and theodore roosevelt's letters. and when i had my own children, it was a book that i wanted to read. thought, oh, i wonder what other great americans have written to their children, and i wanted to read those letters and i couldn't find it. and at first, i wanted my father to do the book. my father is the historian david mccullough. and i thought that it was a good book for him to do because i wanted to read it. and he loved the idea. but i realized after a while -- he thought it was a terrific idea, but he wasn't going to do it. so i went to work on it myself. c-span: how did you do it? guest: i first began by compiling a

[applause] >> we are here at this year's cpac top and stocking with marji ross president of publishing. can you tell us what is the latest in her series of politically incorrect guide? >> sure, this is a series that we launched about four years ago. and it was based on the idea that people have a sense in the conservative movement that they're not really getting the facts, the information, the history on a lot of subjects, whether it's in school or from the mainstream media. and our goal was to buffer some myths and to try to tell the real story without worrying about political correctness. we started with the politically incorrect guide to american history, which was a big seller. and we now have 20 books in the series. the most recent one is just out called the politically incorrect guide to the vietnam war. it's particularly nice to have these books at cpac because there's so many students and so many young people. and this is a series of books that's really, in a lot of ways, posi

[applause] >> we're here with virginia and the american revolution. could you tell us about the revolution? >> gladly. virginia's role, as i tell my students, virginia played a crucial role in the revolution. a lot of folks that are knowledgeable of the revolution understand the role of people like washington and jefferson and such. but they -- militarily speaking, virginia's role was gigantic, huge, even though if you look for battle fields and you look for military events. expect what happens at the end. nevertheless, it served everywhere from canada all the way down to georgia on battle fields throughout the. they play a crucial role in the war. and of course in the revolution and this is something in my research for other books, i've been kind of learning for about. the revolution wasn't just the war from 1785 to '81. virginia played an important role in the opposition to british policies that led to combat. we play add leading role, politically speaking and of course militarily s
