one of my favorites is dorothy. dorothy is westinghouse's character. she represents childhood and youth inquisitiveness and telling us to explore the latest thing. dorothy is usually seen introducing her parents -- you should know better -- who should know better -- appliances, as seen in this picture, this image on the right here. the storefront itself displays dorothy dolls that came with the purchase of an appliance. there are cute little phrases. you see them in a lot of advertisements, walking around, tumbling around. the cute little phrases accompanying the doll -- one of them goes like this. i do not care to brag or boast. this house is the toast. people spoke cutesy then. it was the rage. this demonstrated the versatility of electric appliances trying to demonstrate how they worked, and it was hoped that reading these, cultural attitudes would shift from fear to acceptance. one such book was written -- one such book aimed at educating women about the virtues of electricity in the home -- electric cooking and heating for the home, the women ridi
