you know a lot about this case, talking to dorothy moxley, not notwithstanding the fact she said she'sa lot of medication today but was very clear in her eyes there is no new evidence which would necessitate a new trial, based on the evidence she sat through and she was at the trial day in and out and she believes with any doubt michael skakel was guilty. >> and she was friendly with the defense attorney daily. they greeted each other daily. and you heard her praise for mickey sherman. i spoke personally with mickey sherman a short time ago. he's not doing press interviews. there is always disappointment with a ruling like this. but he said he's happy that there is a chance that michael skakel could be released. of course, a bond hearing is probably going to start launch -- be launched this week and he could be released next week. all was believed in michael's innocence. and he says it's natural when you lose a case that there is some disenchantment. that's normal. but he didn't want to comment further because clearly, we could still be in litigation. there is a pending appeal. >> ashl

. >> reporter: martha moxley's 81- year-old mother, dorothy, remains convinced michael skakel beat herth with a golf club that belonged to her family after a party at the skakel house and that justice will still be done. but the judge says mickey sherman ignored the possibility at trial that skakel's brother tommy, the last person seen with martha moxley, could have done it. >> michael skakel's brother, tommy, was always thought by many people to have really been the more logical defendant, and yet, at the trial, this judge certainly finds that mickey sherman did not point the finger at tommy skakel, the brother. >> reporter: but tonight, michael skakel's family is cheering the ruling, and the view that justice would mean his release. skakel's cousin, robert f. kennedy jr. >> my children and i get on our knees and pray every night, and one of the things that we've prayed for, for the last 10 years, was that michael skakel would get justice. >> reporter: prosecutors will appeal, saying it was not an inadequate defense that led to michael skakel's conviction but overwhelming evidence. as

reporter: the kennedy cousin was found guilty of killing his friend, martha moxley in 1975, when both were 15 years old. her mother dorothy believe there's any new evidence. >> once we knew who it was, once we had the proof, i have not had one bit of doubt, no. >> reporter: moxley's body was found in her yard in greenwich, connecticut, bludgeon and stabbed to death by a broken golf club found near her body. that club was traced back to the skakel home. but no fingerprints were found. >> they hit her so hard the golf club broke and then they took the shaft and stabbed her with it. >> reporter: for two decades, the case languished. >> everyone assumes he's guilty. he's been arrested, he's this kennedy cousin, there's books, movies, a lot of spin, a lot of disinformation and no one really knows the story. >> reporter: prosecutors claim skakel was jealous of his brother tommy's relationship with moxley and killed her in a jealous rage, a charge michael denied. at trial, skakel's lawyer failed to lay out the case against tommy or other potential suspects. michael was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years to life. >> i do beli
