the triage center is in supervisor matt dorsey's district. he says he's been briefed by the mayor's office about the pilot project, and wants to see exactly how it will work, but he supports the mayor's larger and aggressive effort to clean up sixth street and open fentanyl use citywide public drug use is illegal in california, and the people i represent expect california laws to be enforced here in san francisco. and they're tired of seeing what we're tolerating and enabling in terms of public drug use. a spokesperson for the public defender's office says they're still studying how this program will work. same goes for the director of the city's coalition on homelessness. but jennifer friedenbach does have an immediate issue with the san francisco police department running the triage center. we are concerned that the police department is leading an effort that is a health care concern, because that is doesn't tend to be very effective. she also says the city doesn't currently have enough medical treatment for opioid addiction, so she's skept

and that's one thing that supervisor dorsey is also champion ks.ainly heard from him quite a bit on this issue as well. >> and in the interest of time, we're going to turn to the topic of the lunar new year. we know that public safety also a big. the top of a something that's top of mind for a lot of folks because they want to come out. celebrate the big parade that's coming up is going attract a lot of people. so. what sort of security measures are going in place around the parade to make sure that people feel safe. >> well, the preds, another example where we all come together as a city to make sure everybody is safe. and so we've worked with the police department for years. it's a huge large-scale civic event, bringing a lot of people into one place. there'll always safety concerns. concerns as recently as what happened in new orleans over new year's celebrations. there. so we're always partnered and making sure there's enough people out of the street right now. actually, we have deputies that a partner with central station police officers and t

work really collaboratively to try to make it happen and i also like to thank you supervisor matt dorsey'se and also our planning staff monica have worked tirelessly. my recollection is more than half a decade of work in this particular property to figure out what can it be done here if not that success story housing unit that clearly did not meet the proforma. >> so with that being said that i've i have a kind of soft spot for making common sense here to move things forward so then we can enable jobs and then they bait and enable some active space that really we can see the light at the end of the tunnel per se. then just continue to perpetually keeping it empty and then continue to have a lot of issues on safety, streetscape and everything. >> but i do feel sympathetic about a lot of people's raised concern on what this is going to look like on the ground floor. so i'm going to go then really quickly but i wanted to emphasize that too they weren't asked to give a waiver for the active use on second floor only. so i want to make sure that we're focusing on one piece here but then we can j
