let's begin with chief meteorologist, doug camera. doug. >> talking about the storm over the next couple days. it makes its way in here. the biggest impact tomorrow. talking about the storm for a week. seems like when is it going to get here it? is here. tomorrow is the day we really have to watch out for. out there right now. we can see, low cloud. rain continues to make its way in. as the it does so, rain totals are going to start to pile up quickly. some areas, heavy to moderate rain. all because of hurricane sandy. there it is. storm well offshore. come hundred miles. one thing you notice. the heaviest rain band are right here. plenty of rain in the center. radar, not able to pick it up out toward the open walter ter e atlantic. the system starting to get better organized. it makes its way through the nor. finally starting to make the northern turn. wind, 75 miles an hour. northeast. 14 miles an hour. pressure done to 950 millibars. if it came ashored, an historic storm, pressurewise. by pressure, talking potential for strong wind

doug kammerer right now is here to explain why we should keep a close eye on this one. >> the reason for this, jim, is not because we have a hurricane to the south. it's because what's going to be happening after. this right now, it says it's a hurricane, but most likely it's a tropical storm. but do not let that fool. the 8:00 advisory, i bet it will come out as tropical storm sandy, but it doesn't matter, don't let a weakening storm now fool you later. because this storm is going to continue to make its way up the coast. right now has winds of 57 miles an hour. that was the latest as of the 5:00 advisory from the national hurricane center, moving to the north at 7 miles per hour. it is expected to become a tropical storm most likely around 00, 11:00 advisory. the track is what you want to focus on here. the cone of uncertainty takes it anywhere from boston, to the richmond area and anywhere in between is going to see very strong winds. not going to be the rain, most likely not the flooding in our region, it will be the winds. let's take a look at one computer model. the winds on su

let's begin with doug cameron tracking the storm. doug, what are we looking forward to next? >> we're looking forward to this storm beginning to weaken. it's trying to do that, but not yet. they just put out a new statement -- the national weather service put out a new statement. it still has sustained winds of 75 miles per hour in parts of the area. those are coming right over northeastern parts of maryland and delaware. we're continuing to see winds gusting over tropical storm force in new york, philadelphia, washington, latest wind gusts are 47 miles an hour after a 60 mile an hour wind gust. it may be coming down a little bit, but we're going to continue to see these periodic gusts throughout the rest of the night. you can see exactly where the center of circulation is right here. there's the center coming right over the northern portion of the chesapeake right now. it will continue to the west, right along the mason dixon line. let's zoom on in. you can see this band here, a fairly heavy band of rain and wind continuing across the region. washington, down toward waldorf

doug kammerer has more on how sandy could have an impact on us here. doug? >> it really could have an impact on our weather as we make our way into the weekend and early next week. hurricane sandy with winds of 80 miles an hour, just off the coast of the eastern portions of jamaica right now. really hit that eastern side very, very hard. winds upwards of 80 miles an hour, with stronger gusts. trees down, power outages there. now it's on its way over toward cuba. video a little bit earlier this morning as it was making its way onshore. the incredible surf this storm is producing, we'll see it move up the east coast over the next few days. it will be in cuba, bahamas, florida, carolina also, and portions of the northeast. the potential is there for this to be a very dangerous storm. here it is right there. winds right now 80 miles an hour. moving to the north at 14 miles per hour. on that track, moves very close to miami, just off the coast there. and then right up the coast, staying offshore through most of this time period. but after that, that's the part, t

ashley: let me go back to doug. the fed is in a holding pattern if nothing else until it sees substantial improvement in the labor market. when do you think that will be? i'm sure they will tout, we've gotten down to 7.8%. but you think it will take more than that. how long could they wait until they see that turnaround? when will that turnaround come? >> well the fed was pretty clear, even if they see a turnaround they're going to continue the program which is a concern to me, is, they, they are the market now and in mortgage backs, and i think that doesn't bode well for price discovery. price discovery is gone. they're using quantity. they're using quantitative easing. i think that is a problem going forward but they will keep going and i think it is working. housing, the numbers today were great. unemployment is starting to come down especially if you look at initial unemployment claims which we think are a better barometer of real employment. so it's working but they said they're not getting out for a long time.

doug? >> i think we're finally starting to understand just how big this storm is going to be and just how devastating it could potentially be. we've been talking about it for over a week now, making its way very close to our region. you can see where it is right now, and this is the interesting thing here. it is still moving out to sea, northeast right now at about 15 miles per hour, but you can see where the rain is lining up, and we are starting to see rain now across our region. we've also started to see -- rather tropical storm-force gusts of 30 to 40 miles an hour in parts of the area. again, tropical storm-force winds of 39 miles an hour or higher and we've seen those down toward the shore. now, current location, well down to the south and east of us, but what we're seeing is winds of 75 miles an hour close to the center here and the pressure now down to 952 millibars. that's a very strong storm. that is equivalent to a category 3 hurricane on most occasions, about you this storm will

gentleman, is the race, doug, basically tied? >>doug: i believe so. but there is a "but."as been to governor romney. some of the more left-wing commentators have tried to suggest that there was a blip up for president obama after the debate. according to some of the polls, he won that. but, looking at all the polls, including the state polls, we are seeing the movement to the governor is clear. >>gregg: i am glad you brought up gallup and rasmussen. here is rasmussen, with romney up by to points and look at gallup tracking poll, pat, romney is up, as of 1:00 o'clock this afternoon, romney is up plus seven points. is that gallup poll accurate? or an outliar? >> i think it is an outliar because i have a problem with the seven-day seven day rollings because you are putting in 350 interviews which is margin of error at 15 points and each day you take one out. however, obama is -- i take gallup and rasmussen and i divide by two and i might do more than that. rasmussen shows romney up in the swing states by four points. if you look at the race, it is what doug said, very close,

with more on that, we go to doug hill. good morning, doug. >> good morning, jacqui.start to today and definitely some fog west of the metro area, where visibilities are reduced down to a mile or less. let's give you a look at the u.s. naval academy in annapolis. dawn's early light breaking off to the east, looking down the river towards the chesapeake bay. here are those visibilities up north and west of the metro washington area, down in the tenths of a mile registered. right now, some low visibilities reported in hagerstown at .3 of a mile. the closer you get to the metro area, visibility is not a problem. in fact, it's mostly clear to partly cloudy. temperatures chilly, ranging from lower 40's north and west of washington to the mid 50's in the metro area. 55 degrees right now in the nation's capital. satellite and radar reveal some changes on the way from the south and southwest. the storm center and warm front will approach over the next couple of days, increasing clouds today. you need showers this afternoon, maybe some thunderstorms the next couple of days. we

and we are going to be joand by doug on the -- joined by doug lint on the phone good morning. >> good morning. >> what have you been doing to get ready and how are you prepared to help people. >> well, we are helping people. there was a handful of folks in the indianapolis shelter overnight last night and we had -- in the annapolis shelter overnight last night and we had staff there and provided supplies for those folks but prior to that we have had 150 red cross volunteers come into the area from all over the country from as far away as california, and montana and texas. they have come here to help. so we have got the people power that we need. they brought with them a whole bunch of vehicles that we can use for going out into the neighborhoods to distribute food and water and check on people and make sure they are okay. and we have got about 30,000 heater mills to district to folks. so we are ready and we are hoping that we don't need any of this and that people are taking the precautions they need and are ready themselves. >> doug, you mentioned the precautions. this is charley wit

>> well, clearly, it's what doug said. moving toward governor romney in these states where people have spent a lot of money like particularly ohio. it's moving inexorably slower than it is, say, in places like pennsylvania which is now really in play. but, you know, the question in ohio is you've had a lot of early voting, and that seems to have favored president obama, and they're trying to factor that in. so these polls are getting very complicated because of that factor. but the race is clearly slowly and inexorably moving right now to golf romney. that may switch -- megyn: we are told that president obama in the early voting in ohio has maintained the clear advantage, and yet while a lot of the votes get counted in the ohio now, i guess the vast majority still get counted on election day, doug. i want to show you the pennsylvania poll, the latest quinnipiac poll shows a four-point distance between the men, obama 50, romney at 46. it used to be -- on september 26th a 12-point advantage for president obama, and now even
