doug: she is live in sow gar land. i want to update everyone that the national weather service calling for 15 to 25 additional inches of rain in the greater houston area. before it ends. harvey, in the last few hours the orange and red blossomed. we have area north of the circulation erupting. that is part of this feeder band coming to land and they are going north over the higher terrain. heavy rain developing there. the track is erratic. it's moving southeast. but as it moves to the 48 hours upper level winds approaching to the west give it a kick in the seat of the pants. this is doppler of the area. the bands used to come out due south. now they come from the east and wrap around the circulation center. they are going to wind up in the ground zero and that is why the hurricane center is scared but confident that additional rainfall is measured for feet not just inches. southern parishes of louisiana, 15 disaster area as the bands continue. east coast a minor system. waiting for it to be upgrided to the tropical sto

doug: yeah. i'm blown away by the fact when the first word of the storm developed to a hurricane and major hurricane the national weather service, hurricane center saying they could be 40 to 50 inches in spots. >> no way. doug: really. it's true. michelle: they are at 49. doug: in some areas. some are over 50. we will get final numbers. good news for houston the rain is slowl sunshine. jonathan: they need that. doug: check out the numbers. this similar pressive. tell you what the columns are that you are looking at. on the left you see an area. that is the record. 16.8. the 30-day just set. and the monthly total for the most rain in the month for the month of august is 39.31. those are houston records. the rainiest day we have had in the history of record in washington is 6.39 inches in 1933. the rainiest four-day period is 10.5 inches. the rainiest month was 193 and we had 17.45. it's not even close to this. imagine the volume of the rain. the numbers we see there reported day after day are just

alison: for that we go to chief meteorologist doug hill with more. hi, doug. doug: the forecast has been simple. pop-up storms, humidity. the biggest problem is finding out where they will pop. today is north of baltimore. flood warning and severe warnings for the eastern suburb of baltimore city, to the county and western shore of chesapeake bay. notices from the f.a.a. indicate significant delays in departures from reagan national and arrivals and departures from the metro new york city area. they are getting hit with a lot of storms. let's zoom in baltimore. active storms drifting north east at 5 miles per hour. farther south we have action, not much we have a window of an hour or two where we could see it pop up low callly but nothing yet. temperatures right now are mostly in the 80's to 90 in the area. 90 in washington and leesburg. 91 in warrenton but it feels warmer because of the moisture levels. the future cast indicates possibility of more storms popping. things will settle down tonight. tomorrow we'll replay the whole situation and again on friday.

doug: it sure is.news for us is we clearly see in animation of the satellite and the radar back edge is moving west to east. this is taking longer to end at the coast. our executive producer alex liggitt put together the rainfall records they have had in houston. in the stretch of houston they had one-day rain total of 16.7 inches of rain. four-day rain total of 33.88. a monthly total now closing in on 40 the washington record the most rain is 6.39 inches in one day. we had a four-day total of 10.5 inches in 1933. monthly total of 17.45. we are not close to being in the same ballpark from the biggest storms and the tropical systems we have had is. that is how massive the storm system is. good news is houston on the back edge of the circulation of the steady rain. the center will move northward and the rain will come to an end. great news. future cast shows clearly with sunshine possibly breaking out in the skies over houston tomorrow afternoon. the rain pushing northward and it will weaken. the circula

doug hill is here with a look at the forecast. doug: we are going to squeeze one more good for day out of this weather pattern. to see the sunshine interspersed with cloudiness. temperatures will warm up, 83-85 the range, but humidity levels will remain comfortable. national now. 81 in fredericksburg. annapolis. area temperatures midday continue to slowly rise. we will see numbers eventually the heat index not really coming into play until later in the weekend when the moisture gets high enough that it feels warmer than what the thermometer would indicate. we have enjoyed an absence of that for the past few days because the air has been so dry. partly to mostly sunny skies, 85 by 4:00. satellite radar shows most of the heavier stuff to the west. tomorrow, saturday, and sunday, there is still a chance thunderstorms. we still don't think the pattern means a washout. it just means scattered chances of showers and thunderstorms throughout the weekend. a quick look at futurecast shows that clouds continue to thicken. cloudy throughout

get the chief meteorologist doug hill. doug: we are seeing the showers moving out. that is good. we get a break for tonight and tomorrow. but then thursday and friday is right back on. more showers and more heavy thunderstorms toward the end of the weekend. as far as what is happening rainfall wise around the area here, we have temperatures running in the 70's. that is not the story. look. .8 of an inch of rain at the hospital. and the same in falls church. a little flood warning for a while but we are getting a break as the skies slowly start to clear. heavy rain moved out of the area an hour ago. we have isolated showers to keep an eye on for the next few hours. broaden out the big picture, the whole zone of cloudiness and rain sliding east. we picked up lightning strikes in the area of south central virginia. all of that should track east. the weather will be improving through th partly sunny. glimpse of sun first pitch time is possible at nats park. more sunshine tomorrow but the showers and the storms are back for the end of the week. what does the weekend hold. what do we e

doug is live in charlotte's will, virginia with the latest. doug, how does it go? >> things are calm here right now, i send there's a de-escalation and the tension level early in the day. the last lie we are doing from the other park where the white nationalists had marre migrated, here where we stand in downtown charlottesville there is a horrific accident and appears by all accounts it looks intentional. the convertible car was involved. it is the middle of three cars that were involved. another silver car came up from behind on water street have their headed in a southerly direction at a high rate of speed. rear-ended the car which then rear-ended a minivan in front of it. then, the car which made the initial impact backed away from the accident scene at a high rate of speed. running over several pedestrians. as many as six victims. the police told me they would not quantify the number of victims, only that it was multiple and the injuries range from life-threatening to very minor. apparently, the car which did the initial ramming has been taken into police cust
