doug, good to have you back. >> thanks, neil. neil: there's a double standard there.ow, i don't care where people stand on this issue, they're free to have their own point of view. all i'm interested in is consistency, and that's very inconsistent. bad if governor abbott is doing it, fine if it's president biden. crickets if it's president biden. what do you think? >> well, neil, thank you, again, for having me. and, you know, the biggest, the biggest problem is not who is shipping the migrants from texas to new york or martha's vineyard or wherever they come from or wherever they end up, the biggest problem is the system is broken. it's been decades since congress has rewritten immigration law. you know, the bush administration, we tried in both 2006 and 2007 to get comprehensive immigration reform completed. in 2006 we couldn't get it through because of some republican senators' intransigence, and in 2007 it was then-senate obama who helped scuttle that effort. and so congress, whether it's, you know, in the lame duck session this year or next year when you'll proba

how do you see it. >> i can't argue with doug on those points. which party do you trust more to handle the issue that's most important to you? regardless of what that issue is. and republicans had an 11 point advantage 48 to 37. the only other time they have had a better advantage was 1946, a 17-point advantage. and every other year for the midterms, much narrower and so too the gains they got in the house. the other thing even cnn admitted this week that abortion may be fading as a most important issue. monmouth had it number 7 on the list or very important to you. it's really changed from over the summer and i think another important metric that we pollsters look at are google searches. so in may, june, and july google searches for abortion were way up after the dobbs decision came out. and now crime is yoilt pays what will be the distance between a big republican sweep and maybe something more narrow is going to come down to some candidate quality, particularly senate races. they have to get through these debates, bring a game get their number

doug jones joins us, good political read.re may be different of the senate level, gubernatorial level versus the presidential level. but something's going on here were so many candidates pass up the chance or don't do as many. what you make of it? >> i think a couple of things. first come over so polarized as a nation there are fewer swing voters than there were before, fewer persuadable. it's more about getting your foot out than persuading. and because candidates really do not have the ability to agree on anything, they would just yell at each other, both sides and most debate see more downside as you and mark meadows were suggesting then upside. >> let me ask you, doug, your take on where this stands that. right now some of these races are very close. it still seems with these power rankings we put out that republicans have a good chance of taking the house, odds are better than it they were a few weeks ago. senate appears to be a jump ball but some pollsters say republicans could pull that up as well, that herschel walker

doug: in terms of ideas for arizona, first i want to say thank you, deb. my good friend, asa hutchinson, invited me in here today. we came to this governors conference together and these eight years have flown. i'm thrilled that you are talking about ideas for us to go forward and it's a wonderful thing to be a part of this panel with the governor and secretary who have been so supportive of all the ideas we have been able to bring to life. in arizona i have three things i want to touch on that we have been able to do. first i want to come up with ideas and new ideas because we have problems to solve. one of our challenges now in the wake of covid is our kids have fallen behind. in arizona we took the available dollars that we have and every governor today has available dollars, much different from 2015, and we put together the arizona on track summer camps. we wanted to get our kids caught up. online learning was not good for the kids. especially the kids in the low income areas. we worked with the boys and girls club and came up with opportunities for te
