what they want in return given seems to be taken as a real thing by the market. jonathan: stagflation. this conversation is not going away. tom: it is not and it folds actual street strategy whether it is steve major at hsbc -- subadra rajappa joins us with socgen. it is an interesting move. let's start with what has not happened. why are yields not moving like net gas? subadra: because of the fact that we are a big market and we look at fundamentals and bond yields have been slow to react to what is happening on the commodity complex because it is not that big of an issue. i think the moves in natural gas are speculative. i'm not sure there should be a reaction in the bond market. broadly speaking, i think higher oil prices and fears of inflation have been driving yields higher. i think that trend will stay for the remainder of the year. tom: lisa abramowicz has emphasized the paper in the insatiable demand. if i like yields at 1.35, price down, yields up, i will little -- i will really like it at 1.55. is there huge thirst to buy the dip in bonds? subadra: what you will see from investors is some level of caution given that you will see a sharp move from around 1.30 prior to the fomc meeting to around 1.55 and momentum seems to be towards higher yields given headlines. what you will see over the next weeks is more cautious approach in the bond market. you will not see dip buyers in right away. they will need to see 10-year gilts stabilize before they come in and start buying the market. in the near term they probably stay on the sidelines, especially heading into payrolls this weekend. beyond that we stabilize into a new range, then you see investors coming in. jonathan: many legends of the investment world are worried. there's a difference between big an economist and looking at stagflation and saying the stag does not work. growth is expected have a four handle through next year. that is not stagflation. market participants are saying growth decelerating and inflation expectations still elevated and maybe they might accelerate into a new year. i want to understand how a pot market behaves in that environment, decelerating growth and persistent higher inflation. what does that look like? subadra: inflation expectations should rise modestly given where inflation expectations are in the u.k. and europe. you are seeing global inflation expectations rise meaningfully. we did a chart comparing inflation expectations last week. what you notice is the u.s. 10 year breakevens have been very much in a range and until yesterday they have been tested to break above 240. i think if inflation risks persist you will see room for breakevens to continue to rise. broadly speaking, the fundamental picture is supportive. growth is strong. we are seeing revisions to growth in the third quarter but that is pushing cap growth -- that is pushing out growth into the upcoming quarters. it is not growth we are using, it is getting postponed. there is no to rail meant. in that context -- there is no derailment. jonathan: it is the classic em llama. -- it is the classic em dilemma. often they hike. i'm trying to understand what dm central banks will do. will they have the patient's to sit this one through? subadra: i think they will. like vice chair richard clarida said they want to see what the inflation prints are up to the end of the year. there is a persistence of inflation. they will not rush into guiding the markets with hiking. the announcement will come in november regardless of what happens to the employment report on friday. beyond that they will need to see consistent pressure, supply chain pressure, wage pressure before they start to think about hiking. what they are doing is setting up for the ability to raise rates and the second half of next year by finishing the tapering by the middle of next year. lisa: they will be tapering bonds and i want to go back to the stagflation debate. how high can yields get if we experience an environment like that, not even this year but next year as the bond purchases start to wear off and we started to see a more normalized economy with the supply chain disruption still in full force? subadra: the tapering of asset purchases on margin should help push yields higher. our forecast, we think the 10 year yield gets to 2.25 by the third quarter of next year. that is the timeframe we are looking at. the very gradual rise in yields. i think of last couple of weeks the market has meaningfully priced in a much faster pace of rate hikes. that is putting pressure in the belly of the curve. right now the market seems sufficiently priced for the next three years, up to 2024. we need more data for the market to be able to pricing a much faster pace of hikes we are on. i think it will be a gradually pricing higher as we get data over the upcoming quarters. lisa: how much potential is there for policy risk due to the composition of the federal reserve at a time when it is increasingly politicized to will be the next fed chair? subadra: i think there is some policy risk. i think chairman powell gets another extension in his term. for the most part as the composition changes, the composition might turn more dovish. more caution, more accommodation . in the big scheme of things, the fed is an independent body they will look at fundamentals before they make any major changes in their policy. i am not necessarily concerned about any change in the composition. jonathan: thank you. subadra rajappa of socgen. that password is going nowhere. -- that s-word is going nowhere. tom: what i find start, taking a number of good thinkers, jay pelosky saying we are on the edge of a pacific rim in asia. james sweeney of credit suisse. dougticulating what stan truck and miller calls the red swan. i think it is important these distinctions we are debating. we are going through this and making jokes about tang and manchester united. today play last night? what they promised let's go to kayla. >> democrats are racing to agree on a framework of the social and climate package and agree on areas to trim as they try to limit the package to less than 2 trillion they have agreed to these cuts -- under the white house's $100 billion in 2024, individuals making less than $150,000 a year would get leave as long as it lasts. that is a lot less than the original proposal, 12 weeks for everyone permanently and ways the package could be funded was limited and the white house -- >> this is something that can be delivered for the american public we know this will help the economy with good paying union jobs and the middle class americans. we are all on the same page with that and so we see that progress is coming along we think in the next couple days we will see progress >> democrats hope to see an agreement in principle to arm president biden with a win ahead of the g20 and to boost terry mcauliffe in the gubernatorial race which has closely tracked the president's agenda >>> we asked 800 americans how's president biden doing. his approval rating fell by 7 points and a 2-point drop in how he's handling the economy and 3-point in how he's handling the pandemic >> steve, it's clear, americans are worried about our economy. >> some of the most pessimistic views on the economy we have seen in the history of the survey 46% expect the economy to worsen that's a record. 84% think prices will increase, the highest since 2011 add up the challenges, virus, high prices, labor shortages, supply shortages, it's up 19 points since 2019. >> labor and supply shortage is a major worry for americans. >> this survey shows americans are seeing supply shortages in their stores and at the cash register in higher prices. 66% said they have noticed sc stores closed on days or hours they would normally be open. and these are not luxury type goods. these are everyday things like paper towels, cleaning surprise. supply shortages have become real and weighs heavily. >> in the world of politics, there is no greater focus than the race for governor in virginia the republican has been gaining steadily and tonight it's a dead heat a dead heat in a state where a year ago president biden won by ten points so democrats are bringing in the big guns for a final push for their candidate president biden will campaign there next week. vice president harris stumping there tonight. this huge push comes as a poll shows that terry mcauliffe has lost his lead. and a million dollar ad campaign was launched hammering mcauliffe on schools larry, great to see you. we know turnouts will decide this will democrats turn out? >> right now they are not. that's why they are bringing in these people, president biden and former president obama it better work because if it doesn't, i don't see how mcauliffe will end up winning. right now -- and this is true for the last seven or eight years, there are more democrats than republicans in virginia if you have both sides turn out about the same rate, democrats will win what's happening democrats are turned off and not enthusiastic that's why you are seeing polls heading in the direction they are heading which is more youngkin >> a national feel, is that true in this race >> if glen youngkin is elected, you will have every pundit project the 2022 election. they will say the democrats will not hold the house or senate maybe that will be true or not but if you have a consensus like that, you will have fund-raising tank that's what democrats will see they will see their fund-raising tank and they will wish they had passed these two big bills rather than the clown card we have seen. >> the vice president there, the former president campaigning for him. if he loses with all that firepower, you have to wonder where democrats are headed >> not just anywhere, but virginia which has become one of the mainstays of the democratic party, when i was growing up, one couldn't believe unless it was old style democrats. this has been stung. if the democrats can't hold virginia with a ten-point edge for boididen last year, then ne year looks grim. we will see what happens with the economy, maybe covid will be better, but on the whole mid terms are not good for the incumbent administration this could be another 2010 >> democrats would be reeling if so thanks >>> covid did not come from maine lobsters that we can confirm. but the internet is feverishly pedaling that lie. how we traced the source of that huge disinformation all of the way to china >>> facebook is under fire its own board reported it was not transparent about who gives preferential treatment to some users. the cross-check program is an internal program to review content. this comes a month after "the wall street journal" reported -- that some high profile facebook users were exempt. one example, the decision back in may to boot former president trump from its platform. in response facebook writes -- mike isaac, technology reporter for "the new york times. what are the chances this will have any meaningful impact on anything facebook does >> that's a great question i think the whole thing about the oversight board is it's facebook's oversight board they created it, spun it off into this independent thing, but they can decide if they want to abide by those rules or not. so far in the past they have said we are going to agree to do this or that, but at any point they could say no as well. >>> now another social media platform president trump announcing his own social media app called truth social he wrote -- >>> whether that will ever happen or not is a matter for future reporting it is not even public yet and already issues with this thing >> it has been interesting >> it has been crazy, mike >> i am trying to be as polished as possible. it's been fascinating to see this fervor in the market for the special purpose acquisition vehicle to take this thing out there, but right now it's mostly in theory. there is no actual product out there. facebook and twitter and other social networks have a stranglehold on it >> this reads like a script that hollywood would never buy. >> some peopleare buying it. i don't know about hollywood at least they believe anything around trump will have some sort of gravity that may make money, but right now it's all very ethereal right now he has been foreshadowing this since before he was president and we haven't seen anything so i'm skeptical at best. >> you are the man. >>> china is using social media to push a wild new theory. it comes from an investigation by msnbc that china is spreading on twitter that covid may have come from lobsters in maine. >> in china the government controls what citizens can and cannot see and they are targeting the u.s oxford policy on technology investigates a modern-day disinformation campaign. >> how much time do you spend sitting here >> often quite long diving into hundreds of thousands of retweets >> working with nbc news he followed a tweet that covid originated from maine lobsters he said there is no evidence backing that up. >> i started looking at accounts that repeatedly and in multiple languages shared snippets of text that were identical >> there were over 1500 tweets claiming that covid was imported to china on american seafood, a bogus thing that china has been calling it soon more than 1,000 tweets were being sent out on multiple fake or hacked accounts and at the same time each day approximately 8:00 a.m. in beijing. >> that's suspicious >> that's what i was thinking as well >> twitter has now suspended over 500 accounts our investigation uncovered and more keep popping up. twitter tell us they routinely tackle platform manipulation and they removed all of those accounts we flagged for them but u.s. social media is vulnerable to influence by foreign governments. >> in response to our reporting, the chinese embassy here in london said china has always been committed to making its voice heard in a truthful manner and not spreading disinformation in that it accuses western media of china bashing and of themselves spreading rumors about origins of covid just this month there was a new effort trying to establish where covid came from. >> of course they did. >>> back to the courtroom battle between the billionaires bay bezos is suing nasa. doug how do you see this playing out? >> this is a case of blue origin coming to court and saying, judge, under the federal acquisition regulation, nasa was required to play fair and impartial in awarding this contract to send the next contracts to the moon. instead they gave preferential treatment to spacex according to blue origin. they say if the requirement had been waived for us we could have put in a better bid. >> bill nelson said he believes this could further delay the mission set for 2024 to return people to the moon fair >> fair in theory but probably not going to want you to sign up for text alerts that way. the as the u.s. yeah, right. so you won't be in the dark all of a sudden, yeah. so head to the pg e website. there's a very, very easy link. psps outages you can get a little bit more detail if you are one of those people in those areas. look, just behind this. the sun is coming up. so beautifully. this the day, a little david, give us a little bit more detail on high fire danger. and warning here that we've got. >> i know that about the pg e alerts kind of thing. that's really good thing to sign up for because they can change that kind of thing. all of a sudden sometimes you're not in the middle of a sudden they throw you in and then bam. you get an alert and you're included in and sometimes you don't get a 12 hour notice or whatever. so it's good thing to keep in mind to do a check and why they're doing this here is the red flag warning. you can see the coverage areas basically the higher elevations, but it covers all that geography off to the east bay as well. and you'll see when we show you the winds, why that's the case solano counties. basically all of that and more the higher elevations up in the north bay and the santa cruz mountains. the tan color around all of that. that's the wind advisory. now when we have a map like this take away the red when we have a wind advisory that covers everybody usually a winter storm dropping south. but this go-around, it's more of an offshore wind. so it's not as typical for us. here's the east bay getting lit up a little bit. a little bit of fog off towards the distance. here's the golden gate bridge a little bit close up close and personal as we break through some of that fog temperature. check. notice how cool is up in the north bay tick up in the valleys there. 40 overnight tomorrow morning. this is approaching high noon. look at those arrows due north to south from the north and there you can see the coverage area. why the red flag warning is the way it is even cover the east bay shoreline here, too. so we don't have a nice, good on shore when something else is interfering. and so it picks up at around noon like that. it will still be were around for a while as late as tuesday morning. however, the big driver of all of this will be the dry air. look how quickly it dries out even for today. as you can see this afternoon into the 20% range off to the far east bay a little bit of recovery tomorrow morning. that's it. there's no green on here. harvey can make out at all. and then as we get into monday afternoon dropping into the teens and there's no surprise why they made the issue statement as they did when you have relative humidity levels like that. okay. so breaking it all down for you. it's mostly sunny mild today 70's for the bay 80's happening inland. there. then the red flag warning we talked about. it's the east bay hills points, east. also the north bay hills and the santa cruz mountains in this. and then for the next week, it's mostly sunny and mild for the week ahead. and a system midweek temperatures fall. again, we talked about this before, does look like we'll get any rain out of that. maybe by the next weekend, something upstream from a bear. some watching 69 san francisco 72 for oakland, 75 for san jose. the far east bay. we might tap off at around 80 or so in some spots. but we'll take a closer look at depending on where you live, it might have just started really building up this year. there's a relatively new invasive culprit in town. the 80's mosquito. they'll bite again and again and again. they're more aggressive than the mosquitoes were familiar with. they like biting birds better than they like biting people. so they were a few abides. but these new mosquitoes prefer to bite people and they a daytime biters. so in the shade in people's backyards. the bite people all day long. they're also very hard to get rid of according to says include director of scientific technical services at greater la county vector control district. they'll lay their eggs in tiny bits of standing water as small as a bottle cap. so a little bottle cap of water can bring about how i would cite over the time if it stays filled for the consistently. hundreds vector control has traps in various areas in the district. they test the mosquitoes for diseases. the 80's mosquitoes have been in la county since 2000, 11 and they've spread on the bright side, although the mosquitoes can theoretically transmit diseases. currently we have not seen any evidence of that. so it's mostly just the nuisance long-term clue says they have plans to introduce sterile male mosquitoes into the area. these males would be released and they would make. but the wild females and their offspring would not be viable more people are aware of their gut microbiomes than ever before. but what does it all actually mean. our health expert karen, a walk is here to explain why your gut health affects your overall health care. and when we were talking a couple of months ago i was telling gut health is something i really didn't hear that term until maybe 5 years ago. >> a new in upcoming topic. you know, when when we studied biology and physiology back when our our good was pretty much along to that. just helps you eat absorb nxp and that was it. and over the past decade or so there's been a lot more research, a lot more steady about the got and how it affects our overall health. so it's really important. so what is the gut microbiomes. so the get micro biome is is actually just the home for all the gut bacteria in your. gastrointestinal tract. i like to think of it as a guarded and it has your your garden has about a 100 trillion. bacteria in it. and that's if you're healthy, it's affected by your health. so also it has about 300 to 500 different types of bacteria so you have all all of this going on in your gut and it's real important to keep the bacteria and balance. you have the bad bacteria and the good bacteria and then there's 3 primary functions. the gut microbiomes. right. so so what number one is that it helps keep you healthy it. it helps protect you against infections because the immune system and a lot of people don't realize is that 70% of your immune system comes from you got. and that's because 70% of the immune cells are housed in the got law. so taking care of your guy is is essential for having a strong immune system. it nourishes your body. like you said, with with nutrients vitamins, energy too. right in to keep said the barrier that the gastrointestinal barrier strong because you don't want it to be too permeable or than toxins and bacteria is going to start circulating into your body. so have to have that nice balance. so like you said, it's definitely important for your immune system. what are kind of the signs that maybe your gut is not as healthy. well stomach issues for one and done so if you're having a lot constipation diarrhea am gas bloating that could be a sign that your gut bacteria is out of balance. what what type of diet kind of contributes to an unhealthy got. so we're going to go through that whole. all of that next week. so because it's it's yeah. it's such a good topic. for me one of those things that i started to incorporate in my diet is like a probiotic drink. is that something that's that helps this. >> so probiotics prebiotics i'll explain that too. probiotics are think probiotics as the. >> the seeds. those are the things that you need to plant the seeds plant that good bacteria and then the pre bionics are the fertilizer to help the bacteria grow. >> okay. any other signs that that that folks should be looking if they might have an unhealthy got. >> yeah. if you are having constant fatigue, depression because sarah tone and that we talked about saratoga before. that's your one of near transmitters and that is produced in your gut 90% of the cr tone in which affects your mood and your sleep is produced in your gut. so if you're constantly tired, you're depressed, that could be a sign that your gut is out of balance. so that's another thing to look for, look act and this is something that that is not not only is your your diet. that's that's are affecting your got, but it's also your environment, too. >> right. in an exercise and physical activity. >> is is also important because of exercise. they found that also helps to bacterial diversity. you want really good number and types of bacteria. not the end as people get sick that the device diversity decreases. so you want to exercise for for limit the sugar intake. that's what they definitely. we'll talk more about that next week and the effect that your gut bacteria. okay. the key this week, though, is >> the key to staying healthy is keeping your got healthy. >> yeah. just understanding that that they get is a key component of overall health. >> and knowing that that whatever you put into your mouth is going to affect your gut. so important to not only eat. well, which i say a lot anyway. but all the more because it's so directly related to inflammation chronic diseases. you know, like cardiovascular disease, alzheimer's, diabetes, all of those are related to inflammation, which is a-fected by that. get all right. well, next week will will have a little bit more tip on exactly what we need to >> putting in our bodies to keep it all healthy. karen, thank you so much for joining thank you so much for joining us. we'll see you next wee thank you so much for joining us. we'll see doug just said it to suggest that inflation will be more persistent and higher than what both the federal reserve and the administration expects. now, i bring the federal reserve in because while i disagree with doug, this is not a biden administration issue. a lot of the things in front of congress today would enhance supply responsiveness, would increase labor participation which means it would address the supply problem which is pushing inflation higher. this is a federal reserve issue and the fed has been behind the curve for too long. >> sandra: interesting analysis. some are making the case there's something this administration could do to alleviate at least the supply chain crisis that is leading to a lot of these high prices and empty store shelves. kevin mccarthy was on "fox & friends" this morning and he had this warning. listen. >> why is inflation here? because of the spending of what the democrats have done, the trillions of dollars. the supply chain, most expensive thanks giving we've ever had. our shelves go into the stores you don't believe it's america where we do not have our shelves have become empty. it's based upon the democratic policies. >> sandra: you can respond to that, dougct to muhammad, obviously, a bit of a debate, i guess we have of our own here, yeah. >> well, i agree and disagree. certainly with the fed, they have been behind. and right now, they're paralyzed as they await appointments and, perhaps, the reappointment of jerome powell as chair. so that's not a good situation. in the end, the fed will be responsible for the inflation rate. supply shortages are -- and, you know, problems are real but they're always relative to demand. and they really exacerbated the problem with the stimulus bill and really shouldn't do it again. i think that's just a really principle part of this story and larry summers was the first to point out the mistake that the $2 trillion stimulus was in march. that's what lit this flame and made inflation take off. and so don't make anymore mistakes. the fed should start moving more quickly and that would give us a chance for this to come down. but it's not going to come down overnight. it's not going to come down to 2% any t
