i'm meteorologist doug kammerer here in storm center 4. happy thanksgiving. a beautiful day on our thanksgiving. tomorrow is going to be just as nice, if not better. 54 degrees out there now. that's the current temperature. dew point only 36. no windchill to talk about. we are dealing with clear skies from philadelphia down to richmond. a few clouds through central portions of pennsylvania. they will pass us by to the north. under the clear skies, we are going cool off rapidly. the suburbs will be cooler than the city. inside the city, about 42. gaithersburg and montgomery county, 32 degrees. down around culpeper, 32 degrees. to the north and west, hagerstown and martinsburg with temperatures in the upper 20s. everybody is going to warm up nicely tomorrow into the mid-60s. tomorrow is going to be a spectacular afternoon. i think we have at least one more of those coming up during the day on saturday. high temperature saturday, about 64 degrees. high clouds saturday. that's it. sunday is the next best chance for rain. it will be late in the day. most of that c

doug kammerer joins us with a look at that destruction and the wake. doug? >> this is the same storm that came through our area yesterday. for us, we just saw rain. some of it heavy at times. to the south, it was different. temperatures climbed to 80 degrees. more of a spring-time scenario. this is a high school in northern portions of georgia that was damaged heavily by a tornado. fortunately, none of the students in the area were hurt. now, north carolina, where a house was destroyed. this is an area where 1,000 people were without power to the south of high point in north carolina. then down to the south, take a look at this video. these are actually workers and firemen looking for survivors after a tornado made its way through york county, south carolina. outside of charlotte. in this area, they were looking for survivors from six houses. six houses were destroyed. yesterday, 19 tornado reports in all. over the last 48 hours, 25 to 30 tornado reports. that storm system moves well out. we are not going to be dealing with this anytime soon. >> scary couple

doug kammerer is in storm center 4 with the latest. hi, doug. >> some areas seeing the wind gusting 40 miles per hour. as far as the national travel goes, if you are trying to get out tonight, this is what you can expect. to the northwest, rain around seattle and portland. snow toward the cascades and rain toward the northern rockies and back toward montana. the central portion of the country, beautiful from denver to chicago. houston, looking very good if headed to the central portion of the coast. the east coast, look for snow. still leftover rain towards new york and boston. that is why we are looking at airport delays there. less than an hour on boston and laguardia in new york. washington, all three airports looking good with light delays, if any at all. not many delays around our area. the rain that was here earlier is now out of here and behind it, much cooler temperatures and wind. 50 degrees with winds gusting upwards of 26 miles per hour. yes, we are dealing with some rain from around the baltimore area down through annapolis

doug kammerer gets >>> investigators in los angeles say they are taking another look at natalie woods death after receiving new credible information from several sources. the actress drown 30 years ago after a night of partying on a yacht. her death has been ruled an accident. one source of the new information is believed to be the boat captain. during an appearance on the "today" show, the captain said wagner and wood had a fight. he admits he did not tell the truth back then. >> i made mistakes by not telling the honest truth in a police report. >> just be specific. i mean we talked about the broad outlines of the story. what were you untruthful about? >> just everything that took place that weekend. >> was the fight between natalie wood and her husband, robert wagner what ultimately led to her death? >> yes. >> the captain said he tried to tell the truth for years, but no one would listen to him until now. police say wagner is not a suspect. the wagner family released a statement saying we will evaluate whether any information regarding the death is valid and that it comes from a c

storm 4 meteorologist doug kammerer now what is coming to be this year? >> it has been fun to be a meteorologist because you go from 70 inches of snow to just over 10 inches last year. this year what does it hold for us? whether you are a snow lover or hater we've got your forecast. in 2010 it was snomageddon. 32.1 inches of snow that fell in the first week of february crippling the region in the northeast for days. last winter it was carmageddon a storm that hit our area and left people stranded on the roads and highways for over 12 hours. >> going from silver spring to alexandria and it's been an hour and a half. >> i just spun out and had to give up. i tried to get my car but it was impossible. >> we have pulled out 50 cars. >> a lady said she was going to the valley and she took me home but it took us eight hours. >> reporter: it was a storm that we seldom see. the snow came down so fast there was little we could do to avoid being caught. what will this winter bring? one of the biggest players is going to be the central pacific ocean. that is the el n

we turned to doug kammerer for this. many cities use airports for weather observation centers.ports are places that always need the latest weather information so flights can take off and land safely. since there are no reports in d.c., we news nearby reagan for that information. we used to have a location in northwest d.c. and then switched to get reports from reagan national when the airport opened in the early '40s. >>> the last question through e-mail from a viewer named jennifer. her sheets always get tangled in the wash. she wants to know and i want to know if there's a way to prevent that from happening? >> i didn't believe someone could give me a good answer, but we turned to a clothing doctor and he said there are two ways to keep your sheets from getting tangled up and twisted. the first is put them in a mesh wash bag so they stay separated from the rest of the laundry. that's one way. another trick, try tieing the ends of your sheet with a thick rubber band like bracelets at the end of a snake. both options should keep them from getting tangled in the washer and the d

i'm meteorologist doug kammerer here in storm cter 4 watching a very warm day outside. high temperature, 73 degrees. currently sitting at 66 degrees. still with a south-southwest wind at 11 miles per hour gusting at 21. still on the breezy side. the breeze is helping keep them warm. it's producing a tremendous amount of thunderstorms. some of them very strong, if not severe. we have had a report around the champaign area of a tornado that popped down. it's going to be interesting to see how it will affect us in the next 24 hours or so. 51 in frederick. tomorrow, that's when we'll see the front move toward the region with shower activity. i'm not expecting anything strong. temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. 67 in washington. good idea to take the umbrella with you as you step out. will you need the snow shovel this winter? our official nbc winter forecast coming up tomorrow. i know you will not miss that. >> we will not. thank you, doug. >>> sobering health statistics. one in every ten adults could have diabetes by the year 2030. the diabetes foundation reports ageing

i'm meteorologist, doug kammerer. here in storm center 4, a storm is making its way across the east. delays toward washington and new york and boston seeing delays. the other side of the coast, out there toward the left coast, the west, seattle seeing some rain around their area. actually under a flood watch right now. the current temperature at 43 degrees. it looks like things are doing fine there. san francisco, the golden gate bridge, take a look at this shot. not too bad. traffic, i think it's always backed up there. it's like the woodrow wilson bridge in our area. that one is more scenic. they are expecting rain. current temperature there, 59 degrees. the coastlines are the only problem areas now. other than that, we are looking good across the country for thanksgiving. winds gusting to 32 miles an hour now. we have a wind advisory in effect to the west of washington until 10:00. showers along the coast toward the delmarva, new jersey and new york. you may want to give a call ahead to make sure your flight is on

. >>> hello, i'm meteorologist doug kammerer. here on storm center 4 watching where the next storm is coming from the west. nothing to worry about. a very nice evening, 59 degrees with winds out of the south-southeast. the doppler radar is clear. you will need the umbrella around warrenton, waldorf, cambridge and charlottesville tomorrow. make sure you have the umbrellas when you step out. a potent storm system making its way to the east. the last couple hours, it's made a beeline to the southeast. it will take the moisture associated to the southeast. tonight and tomorrow, shower activity early in the day from i-66 to the south and in toward virginia and from route 50 to the south and into maryland. it's to the south of washington, d.c. north of that area, i don't expect anything at all. 57 for a high temperature tomorrow. it will be cooler with cloud cover. 58 in culpeper. then we really get cool as we make our way into the day saturday. i think saturdays is going to be a cool day. going to bed on saturday night, set the clocks

i'm meteorologist doug kammerer in storm center 4.ake a look earlier, cameras caught people out there in friendship heights. you needed the umbrellas today for sure and i think you will still need them right on through tomorrow morning. if you forgot them, well, you're out of luck, i guess. as far as the roadways are concerned, they are a mess this evening. there is some significant traffic all along the beltway, along the inner loop, the western portions of the inner loop between bethesda and towards tysons corner the outer loop out from the airport all the way up towards 95 and then 95 and 295 are both at a standstill. so, watch out this evening. it may be a better idea to just chill out and relax and wait for some of the people to get home before you head out tonight. the rain still falling out there. obviously, having a factor on those roads. we'll continue to see the rain falling in much of the area throughout the evening. but right now the steadiest rain in through maryland, montgomery county over towards howard county and north

i'm meteorologist doug kammerer right here in storm center 4. watching the rain that is out there right now. some areas seeing rain. others on the dry side. currently 60 degrees. that is at the airport. the district on the dry side with winds out of the south at 11 miles per hour. here is towards washington county and towards maryland, just to the north and west of frederick, and down towards the south and east of washington talking about areas such as waldorfs, around quantico, around springfield and the mt. vernon area seeing some rain and towards prince georges county. and right along 301 taking that toward anne arundel, southern anne arundel and northern portions of calvert county, all seeing some shower activity right now. but the heaviest rain still out to the west. you can see what i'm talking about just to the south of cincinnati. a big band of some heavier rain. that rain will move in overnight. and i expect to see most areas pretty good amount of rain, maybe an inch to an inch and a half overnight tonight into tomorrow. lows tonight do
