. >> we're going to begin with storm team4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer. doug, what are we in store for? >> well, we're talking about a weather alert day tomorrow, and the reason is just because it's going to be so cold for this time of year. if this was january or february, we would expect this, but over the next 24 hours, temperatures will drop. a lot of you saying it's cold today. 51 degrees with those winds upwards of 20 to 30 miles per hour has given us a windchill but look at the numbers back to the west. so far only 39 in columbus, ohio. that's the colder air that will move in tomorrow. a freeze warning in effect again tonight. we saw it earlier this week, again tonight, for portions of our area. mostly west of i-95 or just about all west of i-95. tomorrow it's a freeze watch for the entire area. everybody goes below freezing tomorrow night. lows in the 20s to 30 near record cold. that's going to be for sure overnight tomorrow night and into the day on sunday. so let's talk about the headlines. cold, cold, cold. windchills in the 20s and 30s all day

let's go to chief meteorologist doug kammerer with the latest. >> as far as the rain, d.c. around the d.c. metro area has not seen much today. we are down to southern maryland, fredericksburg, martinsburg, hagerstown you have seen rain. it is still raining. light all day long. back to winchester, some rain around the winchester area, back to frederick , as well. martinsburg, charlestown over to royalsville area continuing to see rain. it is pushing east and trying to make its way to the d.c. metro area. a few areas to the west as well. you see it spinning here. this will move through tomorrow morning. if you have plans tomorrow morning to get out and about, maybe you want to take the umbrella with you through the morning hours. 59 tomorrow morning. by afternoon, by evening another grit one. high temperatures around 73. i will be back and time that rain out for you and show you the best chance of rain in a minute. >>> tonight in the district, the carnegie library is radiating purple in honor of prince. the amsterdam cafe on u street celebrating his life with a dance party. >

let's go now to doug kammerer in storm team 4. how much are you talking? >> we're not talking a lot of rain. but we are talking about the timing of this rain. it moves in right during the early morning rush. that's also when we see the heaviest rain moving on through. this is not going to be a big storm that dumps a lot of rain. but again, the timing is the key. you can see that storm back to the west. this is actually a cold front moving our way. that's not what we want to hear. we're in the 70s today. we don't want a cold front. but we are going to get that cold front coming on through, bringing us that rain into the day tomorrow. so tomorrow your commuter forecast, breezy with showers and rain, around 56 degrees for the a.m. commute. take your time. take the umbrella with you to work. by tomorrow afternoon, we see some sunshine. temperatures will be significantly cooler tomorrow after 70s today. only 60 tomorrow. i'll show you when temperatures go back up in my forecast. >>> d.c. mayor muriel bowser brought good news to a community in southeast today wh

we've got a case of the drearies out there, doug kammerer. are we going to get better or worse before it gets better? >> because this really stinks. >> this is exactly what we could have going on through friday into the weekend. we have some rain out there right now. storm team 4 rda rain. about to move back into the district here. the nationals playing right now. right down here, you notice the shower activity. these are the showers that would come through the d.c. metro area within the next half hour to next 45 minutes. down towards manassas around woodbridge. all this moving off to the east. heavier rain down towards fredericksburg. we're tracking that as well. more rain in the forecast. look at the numbers. only in the 40s to the north. low 50s to the south. we're supposed to be at 71 degrees. that's the average high today. we're not going to be near that anytime soon. more showers likely. then weekend rain. one of those weekend days may just be a washout. >>> a maryland sheriff charged in a domestic dispute with his wife. apparently aske

chief mkt doug kammerer has been following this line of storms. what's coming? >> the chance for showers and storms this evening. we have a severe thundershower watch in effect for parts of the area. 84 right now in d.c. hit 85 last hour. 84 in manassas. so we're warm enough to see the thunderstorms. we do have some of those right now. not much going on around the immediate area. just back to the north and west we're watching a couple lines here. one to the south coming through parts of the shenandoah valley, but this line to the north around pittsburgh and further region as we move on through the rest of the evening hours. we mentioned the severe thunderstorm watch for washington county, frederick county, baltimore county and includes the city of baltimore and points to the north it does not include d.c. southward. the reason is we don't expect to see the severe weather continue south. maybe a couple strong storm bus not quite as strong. behind this system we see a major change in the weather pattern. major change. we'll talk about that in a few minutes. >>> so
