doug kammerer in the storm center with a quick update. >> we're right now across the d.c. metro area. most of it very very light. we're going to continue to see some light snow here. this is like really just a little precursor to what we're going to see as we move on through the rest of the night. this is way ahead of the actual storm itself. down towards national we do have reduced visibility and some snow falling. take a look at the latest radar picture. you see exactly what we're seeing here. look at the snow right around the d.c. area. you can see it coming through prince george's county, montgomery county, prince william county. none of this will stick at all. this is not the big part of the storm. it's all down to the south. this storm is going to have a major impact on many parts of the area, but snowfall amounts down to the south, the roads just wet. this is the impact map for roads. roads just wet to the south for tomorrow morning. side streets in areas like manassas and fairfax, side streets will be a major issue. back to t we're going to see the big snows. major

let's head over to the storm center where doug kammerer is keeping an eye on it. >> these showers right now affecting many areas. the wet roadways are going to be a major issue making our way through the evening hours. storm team 4 radar tracking the rain, coming right on through the beltway right now down towards southern maryland, calvert county. everybody else seeing shower amativea activity around. right along the beltway, up 270, up i-95, back along 66, it's been a wet ride along 66 for the last couple of hours. most of them on the light side but they are steady at times. we'll see those right on through the rest of the overnight hours. we will get a little break and then another area moving in overnight tonight in towards early tomorrow morning. i'll break that down for you. then two more warm days. today we hit 70. and then here comes the cold. we'll cut those temperatures in half and tracking snow chances for your weekend. >>> now quickly to some breaking news in prince george's county where police are on the scene of a deadly shooting a man killed in broad daylight just a few h

. >> we begin with chief meteorologist doug kammerer live in the storm center. this sounds bitter, what's on the way, >> that's for sure, guys. it will be a major refreeze. we saw so much moisture content with the snow and the sleet that came through. that is why we've seen a little bit in the way of melting during the day, now we're going to see that rephrase. take a look at the snowfall totals. we did a pretty good job. we said back towards the west 6-10 inches. vienna around 3 1/2. and the national zoo coming in at 3.1. just below three inches over toward the airport. most of that sleet and snow mixed in there too. we are tracking snow right on through frederick county. this is making its way towards the area but it's more east than south. so the d.c. area may not get clipped by this boundary but we are going to see

chief meteorologist doug kammerer tells me that the temperatures are expected to dip to the 20s. so you see all this slush and snow will freeze overnight. you have to be very careful. right now the maryland department of transportation state highway administration is continuing with winter storm operations throughout the region. more than 1600 state and contract trucks are continuing to treat roads as the temperatures drop later tonight, even treated roads may be icy so travelers should remain alert and reduce speeds. that's according to sha administrator greg slater. you could come across another road like this one here and you don't see any slush or ice. if you're going to be out, make sure that you're careful. >>> snow blowers and shovels aren't the only tools you're going to need to bounce back from this storm. tracee wilkins has seen the damage across this county. she's in upper marlboro to show you why you need something with more muscle. >> reporter: yeah, absolutely. shovels are not going to be enough to deal with the damage we've seen in prince george's county. this is j

doug kammerer is back in the storm center. >> some of the stuff looked so bad. remember when a microburst hit chevy chase 20 years ago and looked this tangled. >> a lot of people say this well over 600 miles and this was back in illinois earlier this morning but not the 60, entire period. we did see strong winds and 50 and 60 for the most part. however, we did see 78 around m quanti quantico. this moved through so fast. i want to show you this. going back around five hours. look at that racing on through the area. it made it from winchester to ocean city in less than two hours. amazing. and with that came the wind. look at these. every single one of these little circles here is wind storm report and we saw storm reports all up and down our area and winds gusting 60 miles an hour that have been hit and trees down in our area. right now watching rain in our southern counties and we are going to continue to see some showers through the evening. we got a lot going on over the next couple of days. we hit 80 today. there could be snow in the forecast on friday. we ar

. >>> doug kammerer continues our team coverage now. what is coming overnight now?overnight we have something else that is making its way. that is the wind and the colder air. now right now, still tracking as those storms have moved on through. they moved through so quickly earlier this afternoon. the storms themselves moving 50 to 60 miles per hour. they made it across our ti west virginia all the way out into the atlantic ocean is how fast they were moving. now we are tracking more. look back to the west. more storms. pittsburgh down towards charleston and the actual front that is sweeping on through. take a look at this. this is what is happening earlier today. every single one of these dots is a severe weather report, all of which were wind-related. some of those wind gusting over 60 miles an hour in montgomery county and over 70 miles an hour, 78-mile-an-hour was the highest wind gust through portions of the quantico area. tracking rain across southern maryland and fredericksburg area and rest of the region dry and should stay that way but stay windy. up to 30
