the protesters are marching down market street towards the ferry building. me set the stage. 5:00 protesters went down inside theicist. they are furious bart shut off cell phone service to disrupt a planned protest, that's why they are protesting tonight at civic center bart station. there were so many that bart was forced to shut down the civic center bart station. right now trains are stopping but only to let people off. no one can go down inside the civic center bart station. police in riot gear were at the civic center bart station. they told everyone they had 2 minutes to get out of the station. they left and started matching down market street headed

down. some crossed the street, some marched down market street. a lot have been standing by the civic center bart station, long with a lot of police officers in riot gear. they are guarding the entrance and exit to the station. they are making sure people can exit and come out above while others can't enter the station. this began an hour ago. protest centered around several shootings that have taken place over the last couple years, including one in july. this was sparked by an incident in which bart officials shut down cell phone service at civic center bart station to stop a protest on that platform. that outraged a group called anonymous, they set up the protest for today using twitter and facebook. we spoke to one of the plotesters, he -- one of the protesters. >> how many people does it take to be shot people people say that's not good to be -- taking the bart and end up with a bullet in your head. >> reporter: again, another live picture of the protesters wearing masks. you can see some of them standing outside, watching the people come out

in the distance you can look often you should be able to see them marching down market street from this civic center location down the street. there is somewhere in the neighborhood of what i would say about 80 or 90 people in that group marching. right here as you look right in front of me, you can see all the different officers that are geared up. a lot of them are barred officers. i talk with the deputy chief earlier this afternoon he says that they easily have between 24 and 37 people on a shift. they have added 75 additional officers and a bottom-line they do not want anything to happen on the platform because when you take a protest down to the platform level that is when it gets dangerous. but again, these are officers that are making their way onto the streets. the police presence on the actual street, we are not able to see. that is something that literally just evolved within the last 10 to 50 minutes. but that group is marching down market street as we speak. i will throw it back to you in the studio. >> we have several crudes in the area of this demonstration. --we have seve

he's been at 10 downing street meeting with senior ministers and police commanders. e operation which involved the surge of 16,000 police officers onto the streets of london. on the face of it it seems to have worked. it was a much quieter night on the streets of london. there were no large-scale incidents of rye oth. still dozens of arrests. that's very much the image or the presence that the prime minister is trying to convey, the fact the police are on the streets in big numbers and are very much in charge and he's a leader very much in charge of the situation. while london seems to have been calm, there have been large-scale disturbances in other uk cities. you can expect him to come under increasing political pressure about just what the cause of this rioting was and also the government's plans to slash some public spending budgets as part of its overall debt reduction plan. the government was cutting the police budget, cutting police numbers. in the face of recent events, the prime minister has political opponents and allies suggesting that perhaps that is not s
