there are three buildings on fire here in a stretch of downtown ferguson. there's a building -- sam's meat market, liquor market, another building that we are now getting flames streaming out of down the block, and there's a beauty shop up by the intersection with ferguson of enough, by the mcdonald's that is also on fire. again, i feel the need to reiterate the fact that it does not take a lot of people to asset fire. these buildings were not rushed by thousands of hundreds of people. there were a few people who went in -- there was no mass breakthrough into them there has been a lot of what i think you would call disorder. there's a kind of charm to the air right now -- charge to the air, feeling of frenzy here. a lot of boisterous demonstrations of anger and frustration with the decision of the grand jury, and under bob mcculloch's stewardship to return no criminal indictment in the killing of michael brown, and there is a smell of smoke now in the air that is filling up this entire stretch. of course, the quick trip down the block, burp down just a few n

this morning, i took a drive down florissant road, which is downtown ferguson, i ran into a business owner who i know. her name is kathy jenkins. she owns kathy's kitchen. she had customers who were there helping her clean up. she empathizes with the struggles of the community with the police. she knows. she's experienced some of those same things. what she found was that some protesters who she's been feeding for several months were trying to protect her business last night and they still managed -- some others managed to break her windows. so -- >> how do you explain it? violence has no conscience? >> there's no conscience here. she was trying to clean up. her customers were helping her clean up. she doesn't know how long this is going to go. she fed some of these same folks who might have turned on her. >> over the summer, there was a group that got together and said, we're going to come together as the looters to apologize. we want the police to apologize to us and let's move forward. never seen anything like that before. it kind of half happened because they didn't want any crim

this is the ferguson municipal library which is located on florissant road right in the heart of the city's downtown, down the road from the ferguson police department where a lot of the action the last two nights has been centered. yesterday, after the worst of the unrest, ferguson library made a point of being open. they tweeted out early in the morning that they would be open all day with wifi, water, rest and knowledge. library staff was in place at 9:00 a.m. with over 50 volunteers, 50 parents, teachers, retired folks pitching in to help giving out free lunches to school kids, even having story time for some of the younger kids. the library held what they call an ad hoc school day. they did this for a week back in august after the ferguson school district delayed the start of their school year because of the protests on the streets back then. back then and now, the library invited invited teachers to come in. yesterday the library also opened its doors to local businesses. staffers from the missouri secretary of state's office were there to help business owners organize and preserve records for
