los angeles. as you mentioned, perhaps over 1,000 protesters here in los angeles briefly shutting down an intersection in downtown angeles this morning. the los angeles police department says 25 people were arrested, charged with mostly misdemeanor unlawful assembly. this group was a combination of people from the tent city, if you will, behind me that have been here for weeks and weeks and some labor groups who came here the demonstrate and show their support for the occupy l.a. movement. let's hear what a couple of them had to say. >> wall street and the corporations have to understand we aren't going to take it anymore. >> a lot of people are being affected by this economy. and i think the 99% movement in the streets, people being held accountable for that situation. >> reporter: what happens perhaps the most striking thing we've seen so far. if you recall back to 2007, when the immigrants' rights rallies were going on in los angeles and the lapd clashed with some of those protesters, officers were disciplined. a lot of folks including members of the news media who were reporting on the situation were injured.

there was an intersection here near downtown los angeles shut down briefly. but throughout the day, despite protesters marching back and forth throughout downtown los angeles there have been a total of 28 arrests so far, mostly peaceful, no injuries, all misdemeanors, according to the lapd. now in answer directly to your question, it's remarkable to think back to just about four years ago, during the immigration protests in los angeles where police and protesters clashed, people were injured, officers were suspended for misconduct. the lapd paid out millions of dollars in settlements. what's been happening during this protest has been much better communication between the organizers of the protests and the lapd. they've been negotiating, they've been talking, they've been telling each other what's going to happen so there have been arrests, among those who decide to step out of the line, but for the most part, everyone has really behaved well here and that's why you haven't seen the trouble you've seen in new york and in los angeles in previous years, candy. >
