i'm here in phoenix, in downtown phoenix. police right now are blocking access to one of the main highways here, the i-10. the protests started around 8:00 p.m. mountain time. it's lasted about three hours now. i think from what i can see most of the people have gone. there's still a few people blocking the street. but police have already announced their final warning for people to get out of the street. they're telling people that they need to go home and they need to go home. >> talk to us about how the police are handling this. we see this image right now. do you see those officers as well lined up across that street? >> yes, yes. i see police. i heard some sounds like they were deploying some more pepper spray. the people are running away right now. you know, some of them are throwing back rocks. i mean, there doesn't seem to be much confrontation at this point. i think the police are trying to get people to go home. there's a police helicopter flying overhead, announcing, you know, that people should leave the street. bu

we see live pictures of people gathering to protest in downtown phoenix arizona. you can see the images there. a very, very packed in crowd there, but at this point we understand peaceful protests playing out in phoenix, arizona. also, in atlanta georgia there at cnn world headquarters near the downtown area. we see thousands of people who have been marched for much of the day. that march was peaceful there and there have been no arrests at this point. with e continue to monitor it. people have been gathering in the city of san francisco. we're seeing live images here from that protest that has been playing out. back here in dallas, there are so many people who were caught up in the middle of the chaos that played out just the other night. brendan hester is one at the protest. he was there thursday night and he saw the first police officer being gunned down and he caught it all on video obtained exclusively by cnn. phoenix now where police used bean bags and pepper spray. one of the big protests made its way through the streets of downtown, atlanta.s in atlanta. give us what you saw. >> eventually about thousands of people made their way through downtown and parts of midtown and authorities basically scaled back and they said as we heard from the mayor yesterday saying as long as the protests remaining peaceful, these individuals will be able to make their way through the streets and even that meant to block traffic. we did see a tense moment as we were marching them. some of these individuals trying to make their way onto the interstate and that's when state troopers grabbed them and created this virtual barrier, you are seeing this shoulder to shoulder blocking some of these individuals and despite of it being fairly tense at times which interestingly that these pockets of conversations that were happening along that line. i went to a couple of protesters and speaking and having conversations with the troopers that were essentially blocking their path. yes, it was peaceful at the same time and those conversations were happening
