san jose. >> reporter: hey there, ryan. we are live in downtown san jose. this is the alameda under the overpass that goes through diridon station with the train stations over here. you take a lot of heavy thunderstorms overnight, combine that with drivers going way too fast making a lot of bad choices, and it adds to up a good bit of drama during the morning commute. a lot of things on this very wet wednesday morning all seemed like a good idea at the time. case in point? the driver of this mercury sedan now barefoot and soaked was coming home from work on the alameda in downtown san jose. she saw the car ahead of her go through the underpass fine and decided to go for it herself. suddenly, a rush of water came at her and slammed into the car. to give you some idea of the force of all that rushing water, the woman was coming down the hill in the left lane, the water slammed into the driver's side and then pushed her clear into the next lane. the engine flooded and died. the woman ditched her boots, escaped to safety by wading through waist-deep water and d

you're looking live at downtown san jose. pretty clear out there but quite cold this morning.e'll take you to a developing story right now after all of the rumors and hearsay the worst kept secret in the bay area is confirmed. jim harbaugh will coach his final game with the 49ers today. harbaugh is heading to michigan. it's been confirmed that harbaugh will become the next head coach of the university of michigan. the bleacher report broke the news yesterday. a press conference to introduce coach harbaugh is expected to be held on tuesday. he departed after four seasons as the 49ers head coach. we'll have reaction later in this newscast. >>> the attire of a girl's basketball team has been benched from a tournaments. the variety team was uninvited to play at ft. bragg after the players wore i can't breathe t-shirts while warming up. those are the last words of eric garner who was killed by new york police in a choke hold. his death has prompted nationwide protests. they said they couldn't ensure safety if someone took issue with the t-shirts. many of the girls insisted on weari

san jose with the latest on that investigation. >> they say the shooting happened here, it is a popular sports bar where people were watching the game yesterday in downtown san jose, police detained several men, but we have not heard of any official arrests. someone called 911 around 5:15, according to the san jose news, police arrived at a location along west santa clara avenue to find one man suffering a gunshot wound. they say according to its source, the man was a security guard attempting to break up a despite. police detained several men outside the bar, around the corner. customers watched the battle of the bay between the 9ers and the raiders game prior to the shooting police wouldn't say what led up to the shooting but said it was quote, game-related for sure. we are working to learn an update on the victim's condition as well and confirm the identity of the people. no arrests report at this point. this is the only report of violence following the battle of the bay which was as we said last night. dave? >> thank you. >>> time is now 6:07. we have details on a stolen car chase that started, and ended with police shooting a female suspect in oakla

this is taken's fairmount in downtown san jose and you can see the entire portapotty being blown down the street. and crews worked overnight to restore power to customers in san jose's silver creek neighborhood where some of the worse damage occurred. powerful winds called a eucalyptus tree to fall on a power pole and that caused a chain reaction and resulted in 8 poles coming down. power was restored by six a.m. and now some residents are worried about a possibility of more whipped. >> we decided that we weren't going to have it yesterday but the power is back on and you know what, if it goes back out again we will do what he did yesterday. we will put the burner in the garage and have fun. >>> crews have been working overtime to fix remaining outages and the spokesperson says the agency uses storm prediction tools to figure out where best to deploy crews and damage from the strong winds have thousands around the bay area without electricity. 800 on the peninsula don't have power and 700 in san francisco and five hundred in the east bay and another 200 in the north bay. still don't h

southbound 101 passing through downtown san jose. i've got to tell you, we've been begging for rain, we need it for the drought, but i think commuters are probably enough already. to give you an idea what our morning was like, once the sun came up, southbound 280 to 85, 101, local roads to palo alto. not only was traffic relentless, so was the weather. not just for drivers, but for people taking mass transit, as well. this was the scene just about an hour and a half ago. you're looking in palo alto. this is what greeted riders trying to get from one platform to another at the palo alto station. a good four to five inches of water in the pedestrian tunnel. some said to heck with it. they could get to their train on time. a caltrain worker was still trying to figure out what caused the drainage to block. in woodside, the rain took down a large part of a giant 100-year-old oak, sending it down on a road a couple blocks west of the intersection, where a lot of the town shops were located, if you're not familiar. power was knocked out to

san jose. these are calls left over from yesterday when that windstorm came into the south bay. the highest wind gust in santa clara county was in downtown san jose at 52 miles per hour. all that blowing knocked down massive trees all over the city. it blocked streets, damaged becomes, dragged down power lines, blew out power transformers. one woman's car got smashed. >> i thought i got a good parking spot but i didn't. there was flooding on highway 87 in downtown san jose which closed a lane and a solo spinout that closed the freeway until a chp car could push the wreck to the side. one truck driver said too many people drive like it's still dry. >> when it's been a while since it rained, there's more oil on the road and so forth. it's kind of like driving through salad dressing. >> reporter: trees that may have been sick or weakened by the drought fell throughout the santa cruz mountains often blocking roads and knocking out power. on woodside road near canada a big oak tree took down power lines. it was a powerful blast but just the first taste of this week's expected wild weather. >> we're getting saturated. and it's a gully-washer, the leaves are just coming down and clogging the drains. >> reporter: what has people concerned is this next phase of the storm that's expected to come up tomorrow, ken, as you well know, when you get heavy winds up here, as paul said, we could have a lot of trouble. people are afraid of a lot more trees coming down and a lot more power outages and extended power outages
