abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in downtown saratoga with a look at the impact on the south bay. matt? >> reporter: kristen, we've seen a pretty consistent shower over the last hour, hour and a half in downtown saratoga. the real issue is if you head up into the mountains because around a corner could be a dangerous slide. when it rains, it falls in the santa cruz mountains. the chp was called for some boulders in the road on highway 9 and redwood gulch road. cal trans was busy in the area. several inches of rain helped energize saratoga creek. not everything was as peaceful as this. weather conditions were rough when a wrong-way driver on southbound 880 near the 237 interchange created a chaotic and horrific crash scene just before 5:00 a.m. >> i don't know where -- where he got on the freeway traveling the wrong direction, but it wasn't very far from here where we got the call. >> reporter: in the end, five vehicles were involved. the wrong-way driver was killed and another person taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the morning commute through milpitas was a mess. in pa

right now it's moving through saratoga and moving closer to campbell. it would be in downtownitas in about 34 minutes. we will be tracking this rain as it continues to move to the north and east. pop-up showers possible in any spot at any point throughout the day. and some of these downpours may contain some small hail. we'll also have a chance of some thunder and lightning in the north bay for this afternoon. still looking at some rounds of rain moving through even into this evening with some cool temperatures throughout the day and clearing out for the weekend. san francisco in the upper 50s and inland looking at low 60s by sunday. what's happening on the roads now, mike? >>> kari, we had the traffic break westbound going away from us on the san mateo bridge. you can see the car over on the right shoulder just above where the "today" show rainbow is. see the lights. that's the reason we have recovering from 880 and that highlight shows the east bay with wet roadways, also recovering on the peninsula. a slower drive. san jose showing you typical northbound slowing. north 280
