it's uncontested, as mark doyle has been reporting for a long time. even the u.n.'s own scientists have been admitting it. back in early 2012, president bill clinton, the u.n. special envoy for haiti, conceded the u.n. was the approximate cause. our hurdle, as you mentioned, is jurisdictional. the u.n. is claiming immunity. he u.n. has immunity, for good reasons. it is conditioned on the u.n. keeping up its end of the bargain, which is providing alternative mechanisms for justice to people hurt by its operations. and in this case, the u.n. is refusing to provide those mechanisms. courts throughout the world -- and this is a developing, more and more every year, courts throughout the world are saying that if the u.n. does not uphold its end of the bargain, or if international organizations do not uphold their end of the bargain, then courts should not allow them to claim immunity. and so in this case, it's clear that the u.n. has not allowed the victims of its cholera to have an alternative mechanism for justice, and so we have now choice but to go into a national co

here's jessica doyle. >> the nation's debt ceiling problem is a lot like some of the problems a typical couple might face over the credit card bill. since we don't like to be stereo typical let's say the guy has a shopping problem and he hands the credit card bills to his wife. she says how am i going to pay for this stuff because we have maxed out our credit limit? that's what the nation has done with the debt limit. congress has been shopping telling the treasury it is time to pay. now the debt limit is currently at $16.7 trillion. we actually hit this debt limit back in may and the nation has been using some fancy accounting tricks to keep going, but we're going to run out of easy options next week. so here's what congress can do now. congress can cut spending dramatically like it did during the sequester which wasn't that popular. congress can raise taxes dramatically again which would not be all that popular or congress can raise the debt limit yet again. that might seem like the easiest option out there, but it's not that easy and here's why. time for a little math lesson and a li

. >> jessica doyle is here. >> i guess you can imagine -- [ multiple voices ] >> wall street traders are kicking off a new month and a new quarter and they have all this stuff to think b. the last time the debt ceiling issue came up was august 2011. standard&poors downgraded the u.s.' credit rating. the stock market experienced plenty of volatility for about three weeks. despite the worries about what's going on in washington, it was a winning qargter for wall street -- quarter for wall street led by the nasdaq which was up but yesterday not so great. the dow plunged 128 points. not so bad. 15,129 is the level. the s&p 500 and the nasdaq both matched each other down 10 points yesterday. still, get this, all three major averages up between 15 and 24% for the year so far. pretty good year for wall street. >>> delta airlines plans to buy tablets for the pilots. they would replace all the books and maps they carry around. already airlines have already switched to tablets but use the ipad. the surface tablets will save about $13 million a year in fuel and other costs. they plan to test th

jessica doyle is off today. here are some of the financial headlines. wall street analysts warn of the impack the government shutdown has had. standard&poors estimates the partial shutdown of the government has had a $24 billion impact on the u.s. economy. since october 1 the agency believes the shutdown trimmed .6% off annualized gdp growth for the fourth quarter. s&p downgraded the ratings of u.s. bonds in 2011 due to the political impasse. yesterday the s&p warned that consumer confidence plummeted as the country approached the debt ceiling two years ago. still too early to determine if this latest standoff affected consumer spending as negatively. >>> facebook is changing its privacy policy for teenagers. users 13 to 17 will now be able to post items which can be seen by the public. this reverses the company's long-standing policy preventing teens from sharing photos and comments beyond friends of friends. facebook says the change will allow teens to reach a larger audience. not so sure that's a good thing. >>> apple customers and loyalists want new

do you know how much doyle that we export? -- oil that we export? host: we will leave it there.uest: there's a great deal of confusion out there. u.s. exports a very small amount of crude, mostly to canada. i believe the ability to do that is enough to. -- in nafta. the u.s. has become a significant exporter of petroleum products. u.s. exports have hit 3 million barrels a day. you look at what comes out of singapore and the rotterdam area. it is kind of controversy over because people think, why don't you leave? these products home and lower the price -- these products at home and lower the price? we are consuming less oil, and that's a good thing. you've got these gigantic refineries down mostly on the gulf coast. they are highly complex and work better at a high rate of operation. they are very efficient. what do we do with them? let's boy oil -- buy oil from somewhere else, and turn it into a higher value diesel project -- product, and export it somewhere else? i think that's a great thing. we are becoming a processor. if people go into data and look at data, the number to lo

how do you think i am supposed to react when representative michael doyle, democrat of pennsylvania toldthat his son used to pay $140 a month but is now going to have medical insurance for have that with a big subsidy from the taxpayer. that is me. he by the way get free medical coverage because he is a member of congress and make a great deal of money. his health insurance, paying the subsidy for his son's health-insurance and i am supposed to be just wildly happy about this. what is your response? >> i love 1-sided presentations. i give you an a. that was terrific. you are a taxpayer and we are all in the fox health care plan. don't know how much we put in but he works for the federal government. that is his job. most americans get their health insurance through their employer. there's nothing weird or unusual about that. the second thing to say is it is great news that people who would otherwise end up in the emergency room and raise the cost of all our health care bills now are going to have health care and is good news that young people like your son will have some kind of coverage.
