what perturbs me is dpw, and i know there are some people here from dpw that know me pretty well. if somebody comes and puts a little graffiti thing, they will find you about $300. and you have these nasty, dirty looking things on our electric poles. they are disgusting. lowering the property value. they do nothing. we need to find out what is the relationship between the service providers and dpw? and secondly, who gives them the right to go inside somebody's house, even though it is public right of way, and put these nasty things on these electric poles that in the first place, such things should never be put. these are huge boxes -- not all of them, but most of them. you have heard here from eric brooks and others that we can do this underground. we can use fiber optics. the city lost eight years ago when we allow comcast to do the underground, and we did not do

project manager of dpw, responsible for this project. i want to take a few minutes to explain this better before you this morning. this is for the architect- engineer agreement, and modification to an interim agreement that was begun subsequent to their selection in 2009. it was a competitive process by which we selected the firm of hok. they began their work subsequently through the interim agreement. that agreement was to take them through and arrive at a reliable description of the project and a cost estimate that we would have confidence to pass onto a bond measure for the voters. in that regard, it is city's practice to elaborate major couple -- capital work to the lull of specificity to inform a revival number that we have passed the vote. certainly, we do not want to find ourselves lacking in regards to the budget we have identified as we proceed to deliver the project. in that regard, our efforts were meant ahead of the bond measure to prepare sufficiently for that measure. the total fee inclusive of the sum for the services alre

i did work with dpw. i love all of them. i could not have done this without them. in fact, we had to redo the ramps. it actually came up in the record, do not touch this place until you call me. what do you want to do to my crosswalk? i became very possessive of it. there was money available to upgrade the ramps and the city is still working to reduce the yellow striping, but it all but put back. supervisor mar: the crosswalk almost feels like it is brick. >> it is correct. there are several ways to do this. we could have done something in the middle. in portland, they did a cool design in the middle of the street. that prevented people from barreling through an intersection. in philadelphia and baltimore, they used duratherm and it worked well. the upkeep on duratherm -- it is embedded in asphalt. essentially, you have to route out four inches of asphalt, and then they embed the duratherm in the asphalt. this is similar to something they do in london. supervisor mar: i think they do this in hong kong, too. >> it has been well appreciated in the neighborhoods. we p

dpw they have inspectors that are going out but can't catch everything. basically you are the eyes and ears for city government and using that 311 is really important because it gives you a tracking number and it's like a work order number. anything you can do. look, listen and you can make a phone call, for example, we are working on a project in the marina that deals with it came to our attention some person who is a bicyclist noticed and timed one of the lights and discovered it was out of sequence much we got that over to dpt. they are correcting it. also in the course of correcting there were 2 contradictory work orders one with the state and city. you discover those things. van ness and lum bard are state highways. >> i will ltd. regina talk about that. well, the mta they have a specific traffic calming form you need a certain amount of residents that you send in. and they will come out and do a traffic calming analysis to give recommendations as to may be doing bulb outs or what have you. caveat is it's not necessarily one the most expedient method
