dpw is very vital for san francisco.ortant so we don't have accidents or gap that you have to train. so my question is how far or how soon you know folks that are going to retire, how quickly do you start taking steps to train someone to take on the positions? >> usually we have the person that is retiring work with someone that is close to them and put them in the acting role and they would obtain those responsibilities and as a person leaves, they will train that person. but we'll still go through a fair process with hiring through hr. we can't promise people that they will get the job. usually the acting person in the role as the manager and supervisor is about to leave will train that person who will then train the person we hire or we are good enough to hire that person in a position. so, we continue to train but it's a process. we have to follow the process. usually if the acting person is sitting in the position who will get all the train and will help to train the new person coming in. >> yeah, i can just add a c

i'm excited to welcome all of you to the dpw committee hearing on the first one of the hundred 19th congress . and my first as the chairman so i'd like this little sign here i must admit. this is also the first hearing i'm going to have at senator white houses as the ranking member so like me writing member white house is has served on epa edw committee since he came to the senate. he is a passionate and vocal advocate on behalf of of his rhode island. and he is a of his constituents and is a great partner here on this ke committee in delivering legislative solutions for the e american public. i am proud of our previous efforts we've w worked together to move bipartisan legislation forward such as laws to support carbon capture utilization and the ng superstation technology as well as the advanced act which we worked together on several years, finally got over the finish line last year and it was signed into law in working to modernize the nuclear regulatory commission my partnership with ranking member white house on these issues reflects a broader tradition of this edw committee . but hone

definitely have this conversation with dpw, state police and opd, whoever, whoever. do you think what we have right now is enough? clearly not. but i want to say this when someone has their mind on doing harm and committing acts of violence, sometimes it's hard to stop. you can always prepare, but there are people who are always going to try to figure out how to beat the system and do harm, so we're just going to do the best we can as city leaders to figure out how to keep the city safe. how will this impact the rest of the sugar bowl? sugar bowl people in town? how will this impact the rest of the holiday season? as far as as far as the french quarter and bourbon, i know again, it's a it's a crime scene and there's a lot happening. i don't know what streets are open, the streets are closed for, you know, for investigation purposes. i want to let people know that nopd did a great job. they're doing a great job keeping us safe again. fbi's is on the scene. state police is on the scene. so we have police officers here keeping us safe. we want to tell everybody to stay

people and on top of that basically every priority of the mayor has in some way shape or form touches dpw so that that makes this hard to do, right? you're sort of between a rock and a hard place there but but you know also that sort of the citywide i think it is important to keep that in mind here because the math doesn't like work fundamentally with the revenues and the sources and all those uncertainties could break our way. we could, you know, issue mortgage bonds and we could shift people on to refuge rate sources and everything. >> but none of that's going to no matter what you do there and none of that's going to end up with the same amount of people cleaning the streets that we have now based on the general fund. and so i think we should just keep that in mind that we still need to do something about about the general fund. and i was just kind of looking through some of the mayor priorities. >> right. and it sounds like they said, you know, keep positions vacant i'm going to assume politically unacceptable as a euphemism for no layoffs. >> i think that's fair to say here. it seems

we've also been ree onset of the rainy season at hangars two and three, as well as building 260, dpw has been doing some pothole repair, focusing on the residential and commercial roadways, and also public works crews have been dealing with continued dealing with graffiti abatement throughout treasure island and yerba buena island. on the housing front, the dollar lottery was held for the hawkins housing development. there are nine below market rate units in the building, and they have 14 applications from current, vested or legacy residents. also, the hawkins leasing team was going to begin reaching out on monday of this week to the to the lottery winners, so we should see some progress in that lease up in the weeks ahead. we will be issuing a new batch of 120 day notices for remaining units at starview court around the end of this month. we have a current group of move notices that are scheduled to expire on january 21st, and we also want to see which households may be successful in securing inclusionary units at the hawkins, so that we make sure our next batch of notices is approp

you know, business like in the mission for example with um the department of emergency services and dpwg to merchant groups there and saying hey look we want to do a culturally appropriate enforcement on vendors. >> can you be involved in this? um whereas you know we see in the tenderloin a different type of approach with with dealing with business malpractice um different than what's done in the excelsior. you know and i feel like we need to make sure business communities and i think one of our priorities is also to help the associations right? >> so how can we support less funded less resourced business communities to organize themselves to be partners to the city and help bridge some of that? >> i mean we have groups like us of new deal and you know, all these well resourced organizations that could help incubate some of these more struggling sectors or neighborhoods or you know, like be we can be more deliberate i think in how we support the small business ecosystem to lead to more equity because i do feel like right now there's a lot of disproportionate enforcement going on in our
