dr. allen mask is here to help us understand the causes and how you can find release. >> reporter: most people call it heartburn, but doctors call it castro endoscopic reflux disease. it can cause damage to the esophagus and cause cancer if up -- abnormality where the upper part of the stomach moves above e diaphragm. it is a muscle that separates the stomach from your chest. there is also a valve separating the esophagus from the stomach. if this does not flow properly, esophagus. the good news is there are ways to ease heartburn. to find release, a good first step is to eat smaller, more frequent meals. large amounts of food put more pressure on the muscle that holds stomach contents back from the esophagus. it also helps to eat more slowly. also avoid late-night eating. a meal or snack within three hours of flying down can worsen reflux, causing the artburn feeling. exercise is fine but not right after meals. give your stomach time to empty out. just a few hours will do. sleeping on a flight
