dr. jennifer ashton. i saw you watching that piece, jen. juju touched upon the symptoms, elaborate for us. >> you know, after delivering over a thousand babies i've seen my share of moms dealing with this and all i can tell you is it is not subtle. these women are desperate. they feel disconnected. they feel completely overwhelmed. there is profound sadness and fear. and that social stigma on top of it. and we do hear the things that juju mentioned. we hear people saying, you're just tired. you know, you're just adjusting. you just need some rest. this is way beyond this. this is a medical emergency and in extreme cases when that woman feels like she might hurt herself or possibly her baby she needs in-hospital treatment. this is a medical emergency. >> get help right away. >> absolutely. >> so causes, risk factors here? >> well, you know, what we know some risk factor, obviously a woman who has had depression or suffered with postpartum depression is at increased risk and in terms of why women experience this, we don't totally understand.

dr. jennifer ashton is here with more and, jen, we discussed these new screening guidelines. i have been outspoken about my personal situation, a mammogram gave me the best chance of surviving cancer because i went at age 40. there is a lot of anger over these new guidelines. walk us through what these doctors are saying >> so this is really the story behind the story, amy and to start with, there were three major points that didn't get spoken about last week when these recommendions came out. to start with, let's talk about the words that were used with thei recommendations. for the average risk woman. well, the word average is a problem because the reality is th majority, the majority of breast cancer -- >> 80% or more. >> in women 40 to 44 is diagnosed in women who yesterday were average, today you have breast cancer. >> that was me. >> so that's a problem. number one, the number two numbers they crunch numbers and evaluated data. the fact of the matter is that their risk of breast cancer is 1 in 166. that's a significant number and lastly, this issue of if you delay the f
