dr. ben carson and what he will bring to the race. guest: dr. n carson is a famous neurosurgeon and the key player in a critical operation to separate conjoined twins. and terms of the politics, he brings a lot. he was born and brought up in detroit, and pretty difficult circumstances. he has made a personal responsibly and things of that nature part of his credo. he has also become known as a very critical critic of president obama. he came to political fame, rather than medical fame, in 2013 when he spoke at the national prayer breakfast. he was very critical of the affordable care act at that time. that was memorable, notably because president obama was sitting just a few feet away. that endeared dr. carson to the conservatives, even as it irritated liberals. host: that is one name. we are also hearing the carly fiorina is getting into the race formally today. also, former arkansas governor my mike huckabee, will announce tomorrow. guest: i think that carly fiorina seems it will be she will be the only female on the republican side. she plays

dr. carson: there are many people who are critical of me because they say carson wants to get rid of all and welfare programs even though he must have benefited from them. this is a blatant lie. i have no desire to get rid of safety nets for people who need them. i have a strong desire to get rid of programs that create dependency in able-bodied people. [applause] we are not doing people a favor when we pat them on the head and say there, there you poor little thing, we are going to take care of all of your needs. you don't have to worry about anything. you know who else says stuff like that? socialists. their programs always end up looking the same, they want to take care of people from cradle to grave and they want to be involved in every aspect of their lives, and they want most of their earnings. but they say it will be a utopia and nobody will have to worry. the problem is all of those societies and up looking the same with a small group of elites at the top controlling everything, a rapidly diminishing middle class, and a vastly expanded dependent class. that was not the intention

[applause] dr. carson: we are going to be doing different things that you have seen before because it is not political. there are people who say, you cannot do this area you don't have experience. let me tell you something. i don't have a lot of experience busting budgets and doing the kinds of things that i've gotten us into all the trouble we are in now. i do have a lot of experience in solving problems. complex surgical problems that i've never been done by anybody before. [applause] dr. carson: i do have corporate board experience with 18 years with kellogg's. 16 years with cosco as well as a biotech company. kandi and i have experience starting a national nonprofit scholars fund. nine out of 10 of those fail. ours is thriving in all 50 states and has launched several national awards. dr. carson. how are you, sir? >> there was a report by a baltimore official today, if the case against the cops unravels baltimore will burn. did that come up today? >> there was some mention of that. and my feeling is that if they will continue to be transparent, or maybe i should say start to be transparent with what's going on first releasing the findings and then explaining things to people over a period of time rather than letting there be just a sudden explosion at some point, i think that would make a big difference. >> we spent as a country, some $40 trillion since the great society, to get people out of poverty. it obviously isn't working. baltimore got $1.8 billion in stimulus money. $1.2 billion every year in education. the president mentioned education. but the gop won't give him the programs he wants. when you look at inner cities like baltimore, and the problems they're facing what do you think has happened and what needs to be done? if you're president, what would you do? >> well, clearly in the gre

dr. ben carson.u think happened? what could have happened? >> i think putting all this together and i haven't seen the records, but from what i've been able to hear that when he was arrested he was put on the ground and somebody's knee went into the back of his neck. now, this was not an intentional injury. this was a way of subduing the suspect. that probably produced the instability, and then by putting him in a van and having him rattle around that's when the spinal cord injury occurred. >> you also said doctor you were happy to see the prosecutor marilyn mosby coming out sooner rather than later. she's been criticized for that. why do you say that? >> because tensions were mounting. this is clearly something went wrong here. there's no question about that. people don't develop spontaneous trauma of this nature to the spine, so that was just going to fester and create more discord and violence and that we don't need. you know a charge has been made. obviously, the system will now work through it a
