dr. becky cohen vargas who is director of not in our schools san francisco. >> i am actually director of not in our schools which is part of not in our town. here in the bay area we have one because sometimes we think these things don't happen here, but they do. transgender student killed, gwen arejo, we have a short film. we are a move president and we are about youth taking a move to stop bullying but also intolerance with the statement not in our school, not in our town. . >> based on the idea that students can lead the way in creating a better school. >> people can do something right and you all have a chance to make a difference in a person's life. >> we're excited about the not in our school web site because it's a wonderful way for teachers and students to come together on issues of empowerment so they can learn from each other. >> if you say the word, that is so gay, is it necessary that you say something about it. >> it is a peer to peer story-sharing site. >> whenever you are able to take where someone is coming from and gives you a place to find common ground. >> (inaudible).

mayor talked about some of our challenges, and he has tasked me to work with supervisor cohen, supervisor breed, dr brown, dr. honeycut, and all of you to look at our public housing and where do we see it going from here, and look into rethinking public housing so that it will be accessible for all people of all ethnicities of all races so that we all have dignity in where we live and what our future looks like. and, so, i look forward to working with all of you along with supervisor breed and cohen in looking at this effort. i have the honor today to introduce mayor ed lee who has made equality the cornerstone of his career. as a civil rights lawyer, he sued the housing authority to improve the standards of living for public housing tenants. and he also sued the fire department so women and people of color could get equal opportunity. as the director of this city's human rights commission, he expanded contracting opportunities for women and people of color. and today as mayor, he makes sure our city government reflects the diversity of this great city. on

and also with us richard cohen, and on board is dr. james peterson, associate professor of english at lehigh university. gentlemen, great to have you with us tonight. mr. cohen, you first. what kind of reaction have you received from this report now that it's been out by your organization, the southern poverty law center? >> well, i think there is a lot of concern, of course, about the numbers that we're talking about, the increase in the number of these conspiracy-minded anti-government groups, the increased in the number of right-wing plots. a lot of talk about it, a lot of concern, but we haven't yet heard from secretary napolitano or general holder. i think it's really, really very important for them to take this seriously and to increase the number of resources that they're devoting to this growing problem. >> so you see a real parallel before oklahoma city and right now, moving up as far as the rhetoric, the number of groups, and the activity that is out there? >> absolutely, ed. and you know, six months before the oklahoma city b

>> thank you, and supervisor cohen for bringing this to us and thank you dr. murase as well. i know that the asian pacific islander and others are part of this and the bar association 2 programs, as well, to provide legal services for domestic violence victims. and there is $18,107 allocation for the department. it seems for principle administrative analyst or partial funding so that person or your department can create a comprehensive needs assessment to evaluate the needs of domestic violence programs and is that what the $18,000 is used for. >> it is for when we go out and do a training, it has been almost five years ago when we put together a domestic violence response cross training institute. we partner with subject matter experts from our shelters and from our hot lines and our case management folks and we pay them to help to deliver the training content. so these dollars are actually going to go to our community-based partners. so, explain again, how the $18,000 to the department is going to be allocated? >> so, what we do is we pay a community-based trainer. so that
