dr. greg forbes has been a -- you have seen ef-5 damage before dr. forbes, is there any question in your mind that the wind speeds here don't meet the criteria of 200-plus miles an hour winds. >> a huge white tank, it must weigh many tons, i've been asking what it is, we have been told it was an oil arrangement, it flew in a half mile. that's pretty much unpress dent. as long as the national weather service finds that, that's going to get it in the ef-5 category. >> that's probably about roughly the size of a mobile home, it's large. >> it's the size of a mobile home, but it's sheet metal, it's big metal there, i would think that's going to be half-inch to maybe three-inch thick, that is really dense, really heavy, that's not going to fly through the air very easily. >> thank you dr. greg forbes, the premier expert on tornado damage. there's a tree over there that's been debarked, and a giant piece of plywood was thrown through the air and basically that tree stabbed it. you see things that just stun you, that just don't seem like they should happen.

dr. greg forbes, from the weather channel. dr. forbes, what about this storm.i know we're in the middle of trying to classify it, is it an ef-4, an ef-5. at this point, we know it was devastating. but we were talking about this. was there -- there's warnings that a tornado might hit. was there warnings that it was going to have this much impact? >> no, i don't think so. we're not nearly as skilled in terms of predicting how intense the tornado is going to be as we are in saying that, yes, or no, there is a tornado. now, that said, the longer this particular storm and tornado got going, the wider it became on radar, and the more intense it became on radar. so the wording went up along the way that there's a large, destructive tornado in progress. it was being seen from chasers, it was being seen from helicopters. maybe not right from the beginning, but along the way, some of the peep along the track got word that this was a very large, very destructive tornado that was heading their way. >> now, dr. forbes, the technology to track these storms, both on the groun

dr. greg forbes. dr. forbes, thank you for being with us tonight.nderstand nature because maybe in some part of our brain we think, our our soul, we hope we can have some impact of protecting ourselves and understanding what god's plan is, if you will. this tornado went to an ef-5. what does that tell you? is this really the peak of what a tornado can be? >> reporter: yeah. the enhanced fujita scale, ef goes from 0 to 5. 5 is the highest. that means it had wind gusts at least in one location in excess of 200 miles an hour. >> when i'm looking at it, there it is, this is frightening. it's getting wide. it's getting wider. it starts as kind of a winding snake. first a fragmented snake then a complete snake. then this winding funnel. then apparently it widens to up to two miles. what is -- that didn't touch ground, would there be any devastation? does it have to actually get to the ground visibly to cause the destruction? >> reporter: sometimes for the very narrowest of tornadoes, the funnel coming down from a cloud will remain there, but if you look d
