dr. gingrey, for yielding -- i thank you, dr. gingrey, for yielding. i think the american people need to look at what president obama said as a candidate and go back to what dr. fleming was talking about just a few minutes ago about the options. republicans are are offering options because certainly we need to do something about health care financing. people are hurting health care expenses have gotten too high. medicine's too high in the drug store, doctor bills are too high. doctors are actually earning less money today. when i was practicing full time prior to coming to congress i was making in real dollars less money than i did 20 years ago and seeing as many or more patients and we've seen the whole health care system being strained tremendously. but candidate obama talked about giving the american public options, a public versus private option. he said if you like your current insurance, fine, stay there. but as dr. fleming was talking about just a few minutes ago, what president obama's actually offering us is a reduced-price health care financi

dr. gingrey, and dr. roe as well, and i've heard you speak many times, many members of our conversation have spoken, i've spoken a number -- conference have spoken, i've spoken a number of times throughout the district, i've listened to everyone, i've yet to hear one republican say that he is against health care reform. so i want to remind my colleagues on the other side of the aisle that the only way we're ever going to solve our health care problems, which makes up about 20% of our economy, we must have an honest debate and framing the other side into a position that really doesn't exist is not going to get us there. in fact, i would say that we really agree, from what i can understand, on 90% of the discussion. we all agree that we should do away with pre-existing illness, we all agree that we should have affordability, we agree there should be 100% access to care, we all agree that we should lower the cost of care. i mean, i can just, i can draw you a great list. there's really, when you get down to i

dr. gingrey is quite wrong. my wife is named judith, not elizabeth. good thing he is in congress because i would hate to see what he would do to patients. caller: how come none of the democrats or any republicans are calling -- i believe in talking to people in the health-care industry. illegal aliens cost us $300 on $1,000. who is going to address the situation? guest: the numbers are not right, but the problem is right. we do not pay 30% of our health care costs for undocumented people. here's the dilemma. if you are a doctor and somebody comes to you, you have taken an oath to do the best you can to get them well and get them treatment. somebody ends up paying for that. their cause gets spread around -- the cost gets spread around. it does make a real difference. the obama plan would not cover adult undocumented people. that is a tough choice as a doctor to say that, but we cannot be abandoned for people who are sick all over the world. -- we cannot be a magnet for people who are sick all over the world. that is a decision that has to be made. i do

dr. gingrey of georgia. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman from georgia is recognized for one minute. mr. gingrey: madam speaker, we are at a crossroads. our nation faces significant challenges with unemployment nearing 10% and $1 trillion deficits piling up decades of debt for our children and our grandchildren. however, congressional democrats should not be so short sided to make sure we can't make a bad situation significantly worse by enacting legislation like this bill that will only knock more americans off the assembly line and into the unemployment line. this bill will impose the pelosi global warming tax on every single american household and business, raising home electricity costs, gas prices and annual energy costs by almost $3,000 for every family. and the only reduction will be in our nation's gross domestic product by almost $10 trillion, and in the number of americans employed by the millions. madam speaker, washington cannot save this country. only the american people and the american in
