dr. huxtable with cosby hilmself. conviction eclipsing his fame and fortune, or at least trying to reconcile the man with the character he played famously on television for so many years. joined by renee graham, associate editor and columnist with the "boston globe." thanks for your time this afternoon. you wrote an article when this trial first got underway that consult o caught our attention. this was also about the #metoo movement. the movement itself was on trial. how did the guilty verdict affect this moving forward? >> it says a lot about the strength of the movement. i don't think that the verdict was simply about the #metoo movement, but i do think there was a heightened sensibility in that courtroom about the harrowing stories women have to tell and the fact that for years and for decades, in fact, that they aren't believed. so i do think that the #metoo movement was extraordinarily important as sort of a backdrop to the cosby trial. >> do you think that the current climate had a lot to do with cosby being co

dr. huxtable, this is not america's dad, is that the man you were speaking of? >> i guess you got to see a brief view of who he was. that's just him acting out. i think everybody got to see who he really is when each of those prior bad act witnesses got to testify. the guy -- the guy was an actor for a long time and it was an act -- it was an act. we got to see who he really was, so -- >> kevin, standing here before us you speak with emotion in your voice, especially in talking about andrea, you speak with tears in your eyes, describe emotion alley what this process has been like for you especially the critics who did not think it was retrying this case? >> look, this is -- this is about our duty as prosecutors and it's -- it's really not that complicated. it's about doing the right thing. we had to investigate a case, we had to make determinations on what happened and then move forward and that's our job and that's our duty and we -- i hope that it in as grateful way as we could despite what was being thrown at us and being thrown at a number of people, but i'm

dr. huxtable or america's dad. that was the character he played. but that was not the real man. and so consequently this journey has just really been very difficult for me. i wasn't going to talk about it in 2005 when i heard that andrea constand had come out talking about drugging and -- being drugged and fondled by him. i looked at my daughter, and she looked at me. oh, my god, that's what he did. and then i just had to push it away. and so then again in 2014 i saw barbara bowman on yahoo. and again i just -- i couldn't deal with it because i couldn't bring up those images and that experience again. but then i saw hannibal burress, a man, making a joke about it in a stand-up comedy routine. suddenly he was believed. a man making a joke about a rapist. and he was believed when all of these countless women who were disbelieved over decades. and that just pissed me off. i can't even begin to tell you how pissed off i was. and i had to find out who to talk to. and i figured out who barbara bowman spoke to, "washington post." i contacted them. thinking again nobody would contact me
