i will share the stage with my friend jay martin who will tell you about his relationship to dr. sinclair after i am done talking and we will both take questions. i am thrilled to be here. this is my first and perhaps will only event in san francisco. i am excited about this book. i would like to talk about how i came to write it. i will launch into that. i will not read aloud from it. i was a teacher of women's history, i retired a few years ago. one i started teaching in 1975 at the junior college where i live there was no such course as women's history. me and other women around the country and around the world. invented the course. and if you were around in the 70s, we did not have a background in history. one of the most incredible things that happened was learning about women activists of the 20th century whose names i had never heard. not only had i not heard of them but my students had in 10 deegan 35 years later, still hadn't heard of them. in the 35 years that i caught. with that in mind, how did i write the biography of a man? i always had a lot of men in my classes an

after the press conference at the white house today with jay carney, there was an announcement by the veterans affairs office and saying that drrt petzel, the under secretary for health in the department of veterans affairs was resigning and shinseki and the white house were accepting it. this is how the white house put it. today, we accepted the resignation of dr. petzel. the as the hes has said, america has a sacred trust with the men and women who have served our country in uniform and he is doing all we can to ensure that our veterans have access to timely quality health care. you would think after reading that this was the first head to role -- roll. we also learned he was ready to retire for a number of weeks and this is what senator burr said, any suggestion that dr. petzel's earlier than expected departure somehow changes things at the va should be met with a skeptical eye at best. with us our panel. >> i wouldn't say he's the first head to roll. it's the first head to wobble. i mean, after all, this guy's replacement was announced about three weeks ago so this is hardly somebody who is being held accountable in any se

dr. dre's beats electronics, makers of the popular headphones. so many questions to be answered here, so we take it to the panel. we also welcome in our apple expert, tech editor jon fortt, business insiders jay yarrow, and josh brown, you have your beats headphones on, already a beats sticker on your mac. talk to me about this deal. good or bad? >> i actually think this is a good deal. look, we have this thing now where every time a technology company makes an acquisition, all the snark and shaden freud and anger, misplaced anger comes out, and makes absolutely no sense. beats is a company with a 60% market share in premium headphones. they sell a ton of these in the apple store. the company's doing $1 billion in sales and it's profitable. and they've quintupled sales in the last three years. this is a very small deal in terms of apple's fundamentals, it's not really going to have a huge impact. but i don't get the skepticism and the negativity. it's a profitable company. they didn't overpay for it. i think it's a really good idea. and who knows where it could lead to? >> when you say they didn't overpay for it -- >> i was shocked! >> -- pete made a face. >> yeah, i absolutely did. they abso

dr. dre? >> he's been reported to be one of the cash kings of hip hop. he was number three on there right behind diddy and jayll leapfrog that. it speaks to how long dre and beats have been around. more importantly the branding and what we can do when technology and hip-hop come together. >> do we know how much he stands to make with the deal? >> maybe dre got on air around friday and posted a video to instagram. he and tyreese were celebrating with dr. dre claiming, hey, listen the first rap billionaire will be from the west coast. we don't know for sure. forbes is saying after taxes he may make $800 million off the deal. >> why would apple do this? >> it could be a bunch of things. since the death of steve jobs apple is having trouble branding themselves. they have benefitted from their own innovation but the beats brand is huge. with the headphones you can't miss anyone wearing them. the fact that beats is now a service. they have a pulse on the culture now. they branded themselves outside of just audio. >> some call this potential acquisition unapple like. this is how one inside writer calls it. beats mak
