dr. jill chase joins us every friday we check in with our pet expert to tackle issues that pay owners may face with their furry friends. the topic today is a tough one to address. hopefully you're not eating lunch right now. it is diarrhea and cats. doctor jill is joining us now. >> we had a viewer right in saying their kitty has had diarrhea for a couple months right now. they want to know what to do about that. it has many causes. it provided a graphic that will show that. basically, what we do as veterinarians, you want to contact your veterinarian, and we take a detailed history when we hear that an animal has diarrhea. fhabe going . what the stools look like, how often they happen. if there is any history of them potentially eating something. did the a -- did the owner change the food. and after that we do diagnostic testing, including a fecal sample. that can be negative even when parasites are present, so that does not necessarily mean no parasites. my owners know i will say that forever. we can oftentimes have to run the samples a couple times to know they are truly negative. if t

dr. jill chase joins us now to talk about protecting your pet from fertilizers. of course, she brought a friend today. this is west. a 2-year-old highland terrier . >> >> i'm sorry to correct you. but actually, this is cola. he is a westerly . >> oh. sorry. got it . >> i can see where the mistake happen. i think it is so timely that we had one of our viewers right in to ask about whether or not fertilizers will be toxic to small dogs. i thought it was really interesting, because i just did that same thing with my yard. summertime, everybody is trying to get the yards ready. i just fertilized mine. the thing is, fertilizers are toxic. if you have an organic fertilizer that has nothing in it like insecticides and herbicides, then the main risks is that the item they use for the ingredients they use for the fertilizer actually can be, at minimum, --, cause stomach obstruction. if you have a labrador that wants to eat the whole bag of it versus a small dog, who i think chewing on it is just not healthy. everybody knows from watching the show that i prefer preventativ
