dr. malcolm: ok. but the president announced he wants to include the so-called gun show loophole -- >> he wants to include rights protected in the law by executive order. may i finish? let's look at what this is actually aimed at. it is aimed at people who have emerged, especially with the internet, to sell thousands of firearms, while they are maybe a used car salesman. in the meantime, they may not have a store, but they have business cards and they may be selling firearms in existing packages. they are clearly in the business. that is why they have not defined to delineate who is in a certain number to delineate who is in the business and who is not. who shouldn't be captured are not like the widow who is trying to sell her whoand's guns, or someone wants to upgrade, would not be captured. senator shelby: i think a lot of us would agree we want to keep guns out of the hands of people with mental health issues, criminals, terrorists and everything else. but we will always protect the rights of gun o

dr. king was brought in. >> right. i got the story about seven years later, 'cause i was pretty young at that time, and i got it segued through the assassination of malcolm x. >> mm-hmm. with us, and he got shot. >> mm-hmm. >> so, we experienced both of these leaders -- my father with martin luther king, my mother with malcolm x. and when he -- at that day, when this happened with malcolm x, he sat me down and he basically said, "let me give you the journey," and the journey -- how he expressed it was, i think, that the ambulance came in. he was on the receiving end as a junior doctor at the time. his boss, so to speak, was dr. marquez, who is now deceased, who my father took over his position after dr. marquez retired. and he basically said that he prepped dr. martin luther king. then it was handed over to dr. cordice and also dr. naclerio, who were the and the other part of the story was that this was a moment where if my father was not a doctor, he would have become a civil-rights leader, just by being in touch and having the privilege of being able to participate in saving his life that day. >> and he referenced the fact that when dr. king came in, h

dr. king in a place where he's kind of stashed. guess what, he disrupted. he got in the way. he annoyed people. john lewis did the same thing. before them, a. phillip randolph, marcus garvin and malcolm x. guess who else got in the way and annoyed and challenged the status quo? people like george washington, benjamin franklin, john adams, thomas jefferson who looked at unjust status quo and decided they would form a revolution to change and make the country that we now have. you know, before we get too upset with these young people, we need to understand that the tradition that they come from. our job is to apply the pressure that needs to be applied in a political way, a moral way and a social way. we have to make the nation ask itself, some hard questions and say some difficult truths. we kind of putting aside. and not focusing on and not addressing issues that come before us. i gave a speech in february 2009, people gave me a lot of grief about this nation not looking at racial issues. being afraid to confront racial issue. i thought it was right then. i'm more convinced now that what i said then was truth. unless we're willing to confront these issues and come up with solutions t
