dr. conrad murray. the jury of seven men and five women deliberated for nine hours, capping 23-day trial. murray now faces up to four years in prison and a loss of his medical license. now that he has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter. the prosecution case that murray caused jackson's death by recklessly and repeatedly giving the entertainter surgical anesthetic propofol for treating insomnia. there was a large crowd outside the courtroom. most of them jackson fans who greeted the verdict with cheers and applause. was justice served? ted rowlands was outside the courthouse. two days of deliberation, a pretty quick verdict. a surprise to anybody? >> reporter: well, no. because of the timing, john. the fact that this jury wasn't out three, four, five days and they came to a unanimous decision i think most people figured that there would be a guilty verdict. of course, you never know until you hear it. however, it seemed as though the defense team was ready for this. it seemed as though dr. conrad

dr. murray. >> where is dr. murray tonight? >> dr. is currently at the inmate reception center where he's being -- going through the booking process. upon completion of his booking process, he will then be transferred to one of the facilities, which will either be twin towers or the central jail. >> what are you expecting as a member of his defense team will be the final sentence here? obviously, he could get the maximum of four years. what do you think would be a fair punishment given that he's been convicted? >> sure. the judge has several option in this case. the judge can either grant probation and sentence him to up to one year in county jail or the court can impose a state prison sentence and either pick the term of two years the midterm of three year or the high term of four year. i'm confident and i believe based on dr. murray's lack of a prior criminal record, i'm hopeful that the court would take that into account and give dr. murray probation with maybe a little bit of county time. >> let me ask you, i suppose, a difficulty

dr. murray greedy and opportunist. they say he was taking advantage of this unusual position, the fact that he would care for michael jackson. he was going to london and would make a lot of money from it. the have argued that he would do anything michael jackson wanted, against the better judgment you would expect from a cardiologists. -- a cardiologist. >> it is hard to say no to a celebrity. but no friend of michael jackson would have given him the propofol. >> no friend of michael jackson and no self-respecting doctor. we heard from a nurse who had treated michael jackson with methods that some might consider not to be that conventional. she tried to get michael jackson to meditate. she tried to get everything to get him to go to sleep. she refused to give him propofol. she said straight out, "you might not wake up." we have heard from prosecution and defense witnesses, when asked, "would you have treated michael jackson in this way," the would not have done it. this jury has not heard from anyone who has supported
