dr. mustafa barghouti, a member of the palestinian parliament. he's joining us from ramallah. dr. rghouti, you can certainly hear the shots, these flares that are overgaza city right now. it just sort of underscores the need for a cease-fire, a realistic cease-fire. is that doable, do you believe, right now or is that out of the question? >> absolutely it is doable. but it all depends on mr. netanyahu, the prime minister of israel who announced today that he insists to proceed with his military operation. he's even expanding it. and he is dragging the whole area, the whole region into a disaster. he's dragging his soldiers to be killed. and he's drag the palestinians into a massacre. so far, 1,085 palestinians have been killed, as you know 90% of them are civilians, children, women. today, eight children were playing on the beach thinking there is some kind of an cease fire. and then they were bombarded by israel and killed instantly. we're talking about 6,470 people injured. again, mostly they are civilians. more than 20,000 homes have been destroyed. and whole neighborhoods are n

dr. mustafa barghouti. i just want to be precise.as and the palestinian authority right now, as far as a cease-fire with israel is concerned, on the same page? because last week we were hearing differing things from hamas spokesmen as opposed to palestinian authority spokesmen. as far as you know, are they on the same page right now? >> absolutely on the same page, especially after the meeting that took place between president abbas and the leader of hamas. there is an overwhelming agreement among all palestini palestinians, we need the cease-fire more than anybody else. we need the cease-fire to stop the bloodshed, to stop the killing of our children and women. and the israeli government doesn't want a cease-fire and continues its operation. and as i said, thousands and thousands of people's lives are threatened now. it's reached a point of the israeli army attacking even the shelters that have the civilians in them like all of our schools, united nations schools. then we are witnessing a very serious massacre that is taking place.

dr. mustafa bargudi. dr. barghouti, can you tell me what's happening there this evening? >> we had a peaceful march, about 20,000, or maybe 25,000 people participated in it. we marched peacefully to protest against the assassination and massacre in gaza which has taken 800 -- the lives of 800 people already. and we marched for freedom. it was a peaceful march, and we were encountered by israeli army and military which started shooting high-velocity bullets at people. we have up until this moment 260 injuries. six of them are very seriously injured. one died, unfortunately. one was killed by the israeli army. and there are several people who lost their life. many have bullets in their legs and their chest and their abdomens. i've just been to the hospital to see the injured people, and what i can tell you is that there is no justification whatsoever for this israeli army violence against the peaceful march. but the whole west bank is boiling, and the main reason is what's happenings in gaza and the fact that israel is blocking us from reaching jerusalem is what is consider

dr. mustafa barghouti, a founder of the palestinian national initiative. dr.amallah right now. first of all, i'm anxious to get your reaction to those poll numbers, this new poll, american attitudes to what's going on. what's your reaction? >> well, it's unfortunate that the american public thinks this way, but i think unfortunately, the american public is a victim of the mediaia in the united states which is to a large extent dominated by the israeli narrative. they keep receiving the same narrative. that's why i think this is unfair to palestinians and unfair to the american public itself, which is entitled to knowing the truth and the truth is that the israeli government is acting in a criminal way against its own people, against the israeli soldiers who are killed and against the palestinian population. what happened in gaza during the last ten days is nothing but a massacre. 550 palestinians have been killed so far. 150 of them are children. and we are now losing palestinians mostly civilians at a rate of 100 per day. this has to stop. by the way, let me
