dr. reischauer. before it began, i would like to say it is a great privilege to be a part of the trustees process. i've been particularly fortunate with dr. reischauer is an ideal partner in this work and certainly has been just varied in form very rewarding to be associated with what i believe is a very vigorous process of projecting social security medical or finances which is serving the public quite well. as jason indicated, our charge is trustees is to report on the financial health of the social security and medicare trust funds. and that's an important thing to specify because if you talk to people about the trust funds that social security and medicare, look at a lot of different views of trust funds. at the end of my remarks today, i would like to leave you with one editorial comment, which is basically come and try not to get too caught up in what is sometimes a metaphysical debate about what the trust funds are and what they really mean because the bottom line is regardless of which side o
