dr. larimer: certainly the totals, obviously ted cruz, and thinking about ted cruz in context of what's happened over the last two caucus cycles is quite interesting. we had 2008 with mike huckabee, 2012 with rick santorum. most people say both of them the conservative he haveevangelical candidate winning, and it was interesting who came in third. we talk about marco rubio coming in just stiefr or six points behind ted cruz, but 14 points ahead of ben carson, who is in fourth place. going forward, there were questions about if another very socially conservative candidate won the iowa caucuses in 2016, what does that mean for the future of the caucuses? we had that candidate win tonight in ted cruz, but marco rubio finished a very close third, a surprising third place finish and iowa may not launch the next president in terms of the person who wins the caucuses, but it seems at first glance, the results from tonight are going to launch the campaign for marco rubio and if you're establishment candidates, this is a real blow to your campaign. chris christie, john case sick, jeb bush, they're looking to have mom item going into new hampshire and now it looks like marco rubio is going to have all th

rick scott declaring emergency in four florida counties after u.s. health officials confirmed unidentified patient in texas contracted illness through sexual contact. drin campbell, associate professor of medicine at university of north carolina joins me now. is this latest news surprising to you? >> i think the fact that this thing is now sexually transmitted not all that surprising. we know the virus remains in blood from two to 10 days. unclear how long it remains in semen and other sexual fluids. i think is just the next step. melissa: how dangerous is this and what are the symptoms? >> symptoms are very vague a lot of times. there is a rash. there is some body aches and muscle aches, fever, fatigue. a lot of people have zika and don't know it. it is rare to need hospitalization to treat iticly. the problem is the birth defects with the microcephaly with babies born to mothers. >> that is the perception public is getting it is not that big of a deal unless you are pregnant or may become pregnant. is that accurate? >> that is pretty accurate. it is rare to see death from zika virus. we've known about the virus since 1947. it has was discovered in u

dr. ben carson, senator rubio. former senator ricked up to take the stage themselves. they know in a crowd of hundreds, probably tipping over a thousand here, every vote counts. if you can show up and persuade them in person, it can make the difference. they passed around the blue bucket, something that you take to build sand castles at the beach, everybody dropped in their pieces of paper. they're getting ready to watch the votes be counted on stage. everybody watches. people are confident in the process. people are kind, supportive. very polite to everybody who took the stage speaking on behalf of the candidates. they're excited now. starting to turn up the emotions as they wait to see what happens because this is a big group. it will be a big segment of what gets decided tonight and with so many of the candidates coming into vote, i think it had a special bit of excitement. now that they're working the crowds here, the little last bit, you know, some of the folks voted and they're not waiting for the turnout, they are ready to go.

dr. tara narula. first up. the spread of the zika virus in the u.s. florida governor rick scott declared a health hemorrhage in his state over the cases of the mosquito-born disease. texas health officials say it likely happened through sexual contact, not a mosquito bite. tara, how common is this type of thing? >> not very common, anthony. it's what everybody is really afraid of. before this case in dallas there were two case reports. one in 2008 of a colorado scientist returning from senegal reportedly affected his wife and another case that a man had zika symptoms and his semen and urine tested positive. experts tell us the primary road or highway for transmission is the mosquito, not sexual contact. we are not expecting this to be to widespread and rapid transmission of the virus. it does highlight the need for us to do more research to really how long it could persist in semen. so there are still a lot of unanswered questions around it. one of the other issues that has come up is whether this could be transmitted via blood transfusion, so the red cross has taken steps

dr. ben carson. you can see students even took selfie' s with some of the candidates. they got up close to hillary they also met mark a really be a -- marcorubio and rick santorum. this is not the first time students have been to iowa. they went to the iowa caucuses in 2008 and 2012. lisa: the students also told us they saw many celebrity supporting a pick for president. they saw unit kentucky native josh hutcherson and the crowd emerging rally goers to vote for democratic candidate bernie sanders. josh richardson is from "hunger games." he was one of many to take the stage on behalf of sanders this past weekend. sanders is leading the pack in new hampshire along with republican candidate donald trump. the cnn and wmur poll shows sanders with a 54% support among likely voters, compared to 34% for hillary clinton. on the republican side, trump leads with 30% support. ted cruz is second with 12%, followed by marco rubio at 11%. new hampshire is holding its tuesday. in ohio, several cities and townships west, north, and east of cincinnati form a gop stronghold. the associated press has been tracking candidate support in the swing state ahead of the march
