dr. cliff rossi from university of maryland, nice to see you. >> so what exactly did congress do friday?s political what did they do how does it help. >> they voted on friday, to provide an extension, to keep the cap at -- for interest rates on student loans to 3.4%, they would be going up to 6 .8% on july 1st, if they didn't do something about this, but again it needs to have the endorsement from the administration who had basically said they may veto this because of the way, in which congress was lookin to pay for this by lowering that cap. >> okay so what still might happen? how devastating would it be if it did double? seems to me that would break the backs of a whole lot of people trying to pay back their loan. >> 2340 doubt this is reaching almost -- no doubt this is reaching almost epidemic proportions to the largest segment of students out there, $1 trillion worth of student debt is there, what the average debt burden somewhere in the neighbourhood of $23,000 it is significant keeping those interest rates down, is very significant. >> so this is something we still need to watch.
