dr. sanjay gupta, joins us with answers.uestion comes from twitter. this person says will this bill allow people who are hiv positive to get health insurance? will they be able to buy new policies? >> the short answer is yes on this, and it's really two phases. first of all, people have been talking a lot about pre-existing conditions and that eventually insurance companies will not be allowed to discriminate against people based on pre-existing conditions. that takes place in 2014, that whole policy. what's going to happen sooner than that, within 0 d90 days of implementation of this bill, high-risk pools will be set up around the country so if you have a medical problem and you're uninsured you can qualify for a high-risk pool. the way that works is the federal government is putting essentially $5 million into these pools to offset the costs of insuring people who have some sort of medical issue. >> we get a question from our blog, and this question is about defensive medicine. isn't it a big factor leading to overtreatmen

dr. sanjay gupta, joins us from atlanta. sanjay, is it basically stress?me, people get stressed, it can impact the heart, increase your heart rate, increase your blood pressure. what they did here was interesting. they decided to collectively look at populations to see if there were changes overall in heart attacks, cardiac arrest and people needing some procedure, and that's what they found, when you have some sort of event that's affecting society more globally, whether it's stock market issues, a hurricane, an earthquake, something happening, you do start to see increases in those specific things. i thought what was also interesting here was the why, what exactly seems to happen. we know you get a surge of stress hormones and that causes all sorts of different things, but it also seems too to cause some electrical problems in your heart, as well, which can lead to these sudden cardiac problems. it increases inflammation in the body, which can have longer-term problems as well. there's something else here, sort of a medical mystery, it has been for some

dr. sanjay gupta talking about how serious that risk is.ou hear a lot of stories about multivitamins, and i've gone back and forth tossing them out, buying them again, tossing them out. how do you know? >> these are tough stories to report because there have been studies in the past showing the opposite, that multivitamins don't have a link to breast cancer. but this was done out of sweden, a big study, 35,000 women, following them over ten years. they try and find certain populations of people who are more likely to get breast cancer and figure out what are the things that are different in those women than the women who didn't. one of the things that came out was use of multivitamins. what that basically said was there was about a 19% increased risk of women taking multivitamins at the beginning of a ten-year period as compared to women who are not. they are care to feel say there is not a cause and effect here, that multivitamins somehow causing breast cancer, but there does appear to be this association, which is what i think they were f

dr. sanjay gupta has this for us. >> no doubt this is a scary headline. i can tell you right off the bat that a few years ago there was a study that came out that showed almost the opposite of this that, in fact, multi-vitamins did not seem to have an association with cancer. what we are talking about here is an association as opposed to a cause and effect. this large study from sweden finding 19% increased likelihood of developing breast cancer and n. women who took multi-vitamins. this was over a ten-year period. again, no cause and effect. i repeat that because when talking about associations it's simply saying when they looked at all the women who dwoepd breast cancer out of this group and compared to women who did not certain features began to emerge. we talked to researchers about this. they say, look, there is -- it's plausible, biologically plausible there is something in a multi-vitamin that could increase likelihood of developing cancer. what exactly that is, who are the women that are most likely effected, and is it a true cause and effect sort
