let's get right to storm team 4 meteorologist amelia draper. >> we're in weather alert mode tonight because of the potential of those slick spots tomorrow morning. we're not talking about a lot of snow, under an inch, but it all about the timing. this is issued by the national weather service and it includes all of the counties in purple from 2:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. but even if you're not in this advisory, i'm looking at you and prince doesn't mean you're not going to see any snow tomorrow morning. the potential is still there. the national weather service has issued the advisory because of the timing and how cold it will be. anything that falls could stick immediately, especially on untreated roads. back in west virginia, it moves in starting around 2 a.m. in some areas and go until 11 a.m. it's the road temperatures and that morning timing if you do have a commute tomorrow morning that will lead to some slick spots and potential for reduced visibilities. here we are, future weather tracking that snow, it's in the d.c. metro area. i'll have more on the timing and the impacts from the co

i'm in the storm center with amelia draper to talk about the video we've all seen. >> chilling. >> it is chilling. and the winds really are what is the driving force here and there is not a lot of room for fire fighters to get out there and do their job. >> right. absolutely, and especially this afternoon, erika, we're talking about the gusts potentially near hurricane force winds at times. so, the latest gusts i've seen this afternoon, up to 50 miles an hour so the dust and combination of dry air that is making these wildfires so difficult to contain. there are four major wildfires right now in southern california. the thomas fire, the largest of them, only about 15% containment in total and the winds are going to be the strongest this afternoon. now, the good news is as we look to friday and saturday, the winds do come down a little bit. so fire fighters should be able to get a better handle on the fires. you can see here the winds pick back up on sunday. so, take a look. 80 mile an hour gusts are possible this afternoon. here's los angeles. here's the ventura are

here's storm team 4 meteorologist amelia draper >> it's a million dollar question.e meteor shower peaks tonight. you can set your alarm really early or get up early for work, 1:00 a.m. until 4:00 a.m. is the best viewing conditions in our area and this isn't only the best meteor shower because of how bright they are but because of how frequent they are. we can see up to 120 an hour or two a minute. they can be seen anywhere as long as the clouds cooperate but you want to look towards the east. earlier today, i spoke with nasa astro physicist of where we should go to look at them. >> they originate from part of the sky that is the constellation gemini. that's just above the famous con seç st constellation of orein. >> that's generally looking east in the night sky. you can see clouds over our area and some of these snow showers moving in. looking back to the west, there is some clearing. hopefully that moves in. after midnight tonight, especially in northern virginia, go out and try to catch the meteor shower. we could see 120 an hour. >> that's big-time. thanks. >>

we begin our team coverage with doug kammerer and amelia draper in the storm center. how did it turn into such a big deal in such a short time? >> we were saying the ingredients were there for a big storm. they just had to come together. two days ago we were looking at a chance of light snow. yesterday we said we'd start to see accumulating snow fall in most of the area and today, yeah, it is a full fledged snowstorm in parts of the region. if it's snowing where you are right now, you are be clobbered really over the next 12 to 24 hours. >> it is going to be the areas we're seeing snow now that have the biggest kern for power outages. probably want to make a trip to the grocery store right now. elsewhere it is going to be a fun winter wonder land mayor's office i a look out there. >> in most areas. let's look at what is happening now. current radar, this is the last two hours. normally with systems like these, they move from south to north. this is not doing that. this is moving right from southwest to northeast. and notice waldorf has not seen any snow. where leonard
