nbc meteorologist dylan dreyer is out on rockefeller plaza with our forecast. dylan, good evening. >> good evening, lester. it is going to be a very cold end to 2014. take a look at the jet stream and see just how far south that cold air is stretching. we're going to be waking up to lows tomorrow morning and wind chills 20 to 40 degrees below zero across the plains and upper midwest. austin, texas, will top out at 42 degrees. they're even considering postponing outdoor new year's eve plans because of the cold. by midnight tomorrow night we're looking at most of the country below freezing, 5 in denver, 28 in times square for all the folks watching the ball drop. we'll even see snow across the southern rockies and 44 for a high on new year's day in las vegas. most of the country still below average for new year's day. in pasadena, california, home of the rose parade, we could break a record morning low and temperatures, windchills throughout the parade will only be in the 20s. and speaking of wind, the bay area in california is under a high wind warning. through

that's where we find dylan dreyer. it's coming down pretty good right now, dylan. >> reporter: it sure is, al. we drove through nothing but rain to get here. until we started climbing the mountain. this was an elevation-dependent snow storm yesterday. now it is cold enough for all snow all throughout new york. but it was the wind, rain and the early morning ice that caused all the problems on tuesday. icy roads caused several spinouts and accidents, even a deadly accident in sullivan, new york, early tuesday morning. for most it was the torrential flooding rain that delayed traffic, caused airport delays across the northeast. on the beaches in new jersey, ocean waves battered the shores. we saw rough surf and wind gusts up near 60 miles an hour that brought coastal flooding to massachusetts. and now, as this nor'easter is very slow to exit the northeast, al, as you mentioned, we are seeing that wrap around snow that could bring significant accumulations to parts of new york. >> dylan dreyer in tannersville, new york. b

let's head to dylan dreyer. she has the latest on the wet weather pounding the east coast. >> reporter: hey, al, we have been in the thick of this storm for hours. 40 to 45 miles an hour. this is a coastal storm. you can see that the ocean is very rough. we will see coastal flooding, especially as we continue through this morning and into this afternoon. once those high tide cycles move in. we will also see flooding inland because of the fact we have inches of rain falling from this storm system. that will accumulate on the roads. keep in mind, do not drive through those flooded roads. it's hard to judge just how deep that water is. as we continue through the morning we're looking at winds to gust as high as 55 miles an hour. that can toss around loose objects and already responsible for several delays at the airport. as you mentioned, on the backside of this as the cold air works in across parts of upstate new york and new england some of the highest elevations could get 1 on 2 feet of snow. >> dylan dreyer in

let's head to dylan dreyer with the latest on the wet weather pounding the east coast. dylan? >> we are in the thick of the heavy rain right now. winds have gusted up to 35 miles per hour. forget the umbrella today. it's the type of storm that will turn it inside out. you can see that the ocean is very rough. we are already noticing the water creeping closer. we will have to deal with coastal flooding, especially around the time of high tide, which ranges from 8:30 to 9:30 this morning. we'll see flooding in low-lying areas because of the inches of rain we're expecting. it's going to cause some travel troubles on the roads. remember, never drive through flood streets because you can't judge just how deep that water is. wind gusts up near 55 miles an hour. that will create airport delays. and it's just beginning, al. as you mentioned, we could see in some areas, this rain turn over to snow. and in the highest elevations in upstate new york and new england, as you just said, one to two feet of snow is possible. al? >> dylan dreyer in new jersey, thank you so much. >>> as we ment

dylan dreyer is here in for al. dylan, what are we looking at right now? >> well, a busy travel week and the weather map is extremely busy. let's take a look at it here. there is a lot going on and it's only monday. and it's only going to get worse. we have snow showers back through the rockies. we've got some rain in the midwest. and we have some heavier rain down through the southeast right now. this is going to move out and another storm is going to regenerate. here we are, tuesday at 7:00 a.m., stronger storms expected down along the gulf coast, that's with heavy rain and perhaps even an isolated tornado. gusty winds as well. and then it's going to start making its way up through the carolinas as we go through the day on tuesday and into early wednesday morning. there will be a couple of lighter snow showers, waintry mix, just south of st. louis. but the heavier storms will be falling down along the southeast and up into the northeast, by the time we go into christmas eve, and then on christmas day itself, this whole storm system will start to pull awa
