dufty for his remarks in speaking about miss katz. before serving on this committee, it issues can be complicated and complex. the city and county of san francisco has a distinct honor of holding the america's cup which only makes it more urgent that we have a full complement of the port commission. as supervisor at dufty mentioned, of the five seats available, we only have three members sitting on it. this was calendar and it was set for yesterday and it was approved through the committee after a committee hearing. i also want to state that she is a distinguished member of our society that has shown her intelligence, her grasp of issues in a very quick way. the fact that she sat on the board of supervisors and one ousted on the port commission is a great benefit to the commission. she was an exemplary and quite a perfect fit with this particular commission appointment at this time. colleagues, she got a fair shot at it yesterday and she was sent out of committee. because of the america's cup and we have three members of the current commission and we have a candidate in front of us who is ready to go now and it is extremely well qualified, we should

supervisor daly: perhaps it has to do with what supervisor dufty said in terms of wanting to allow a round of voting to see where the votes are after having expressed support for multiple candidates. if you look at the voting with supervisor dufty voting against his preferred candidate, no other candidate received more than 4 votes. i would recommend giving supervisor dufty another round before we reopen nominations as a think the intent of giving everybody the opportunity to vote before locking in the first nomination makes the most sense in terms of going forward. i don't know how many rounds before everybody had enough opportunities to vote for the return candidates. i voted for three. people have different strategies, but at some point, i would assume that supervisor dufty or maxwell will cast an aye vote. supervisor campos: i also want to join supervisor daly in asking that we vote in another round. i think that is consistent with the statements made and we have an opportunity to make a decision right now. my hope is that we can come together and make a decision that makes sense
