. >> reporter: dun town cairo on sunday. a day for celebrating the military. instead it's gun tpaoeurbg gunfs and civil unrest. across cairo, protestors took to the streets. some tried to march on tahrir square. the symbol of resistance from january 2011. but on the surrounding streets, security was tight. in places, police used tear gas to control the crash. anti-military protectors against what they consider to be an illegitimate government. >> the streets are full of people which are against this killer and we will do our best inshallah. >> we are all the muslim people. all the egyptian people. we are all one human. okay again. >> reporter: but tahrir square painted a different picture. forming a center of celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the 1973 october war with israel. for hours the crowd tried to get through security checks in to the square. some come with one purpose in mind. >> translator: the anti-coup from oh testor protestors can'te because the egyptian protestors will protect egyptian. we are willing to die for our cause. >> reporter:
