the water main break in september 2009 and turned and dundalk into a disaster zone. cars, roads, and homes were flooded. dozens of people lost everything in their basements. the new technology is called a pipe diver. it is used car on a certain type of concrete pipe that was manufactured back in the 1975 and taught in dundalk. it goes down and identifies the location and level of damage inside the pipe. cracks an idea as to what really needs to be replaced when so we do not have a situation like we had in dundalk and those other locations. this is a proactive thing we are doing. >> you are looking at the process taking place near lincoln park. the first site where they are using the pipe diver. it is a link the process and will take up to eight weeks to get data back before they even begin the repair process. it's also expensive. the work they are doing here is going to cost a couple of million dollars and they are really trying to do this project throughout the city, but it will take several years. we will have more on this story tonight at 11:00. kai reed, wbal-tv
